A YouTuber named "BadEmpanada" made a video claiming that the United States throughout its history has supported dictatorial regimes and crimes against humanity
I'm going to check how accurate it is. I'm not going to look at modern events (after the 2000s like Iraq and Afghanistan) because of modern politics

Asking random people "Which country do you think most threatens peace?" Doesn't mean much, it could just mean that the US only has more influence in the world than the rest of the world. Some surveys show that global attitudes toward America are positive. In 28 of 38 nations, half or more of those surveyed expressed a favorable opinion of the U.S.https://www.pewresearch.org/global/2013/07/18/chapter-1-attitudes-toward-the-united-states/And a survey that shows that most countries around the world trust the US to protect themhttps://i.pinimg.com/originals/55/4a/c1/554ac1fa9da979681d507ff69c7c9ba8.png
0:59 Nicaragua occupation
Before that the United States had limited military presence in Nicaragua, having only one patrolling U.S. Navy ship off the coast of Bluefields, allegedly to protect the lives and interests of American citizens who lived there. The Conservative Party sought to overthrow Zelaya which led to Estrada's rebellion in December 1909. Two Americans, Leonard Groce and Lee Roy Cannon, were captured and indicted for allegedly joining the rebellion and the laying of mines. Zelaya ordered the execution of the two Americans together with 500 others alleged revolutionaries , which severed U.S. relations
By 1912 the ongoing political conflict in Nicaragua between the liberal and conservative factions had deteriorated to the point that U.S. investments under President Taft's Dollar Diplomacy including substantial loans to the fragile coalition government of conservative President Juan José Estrada were in jeopardy. Minister of War General Luis Mena forced Estrada to resign. He was replaced by his vice president, the conservative Adolfo Díaz
Díaz, relying on the U.S. government's traditional support of the Nicaraguan conservative faction, made clear that he could not guarantee the safety of U.S. persons and property in Nicaragua and requested U.S. intervention.
So I don't really understand what his point is in bringing that up. The United States has come to protect its civilian lives (and presumably its interests) by the request of Nicaraguan elected President
1:10 the Banana Massacre
The only information we know about US government involvement is the Telegram from Bogotá Embassy to the U.S. Secretary of State, Frank B. Kellogg
dated December 6, 1928, stated:" Feeling against the Government by the proletariat which is shared by some of the soldiers is high and it is doubtful if we can depend upon the Colombian Government for protection. May I respectfully suggest that my request for the presence within calling distance of an American warship be granted and that it stand off subject to my call ... It is admitted that the character of the strike has changed and that the disturbance is a manifestation with a subversive tendency."
There was a rumor circulating at the time about "the foreign troops tread upon our soil." But there is no evidence that they threatened the Colombian government to suppress the workers, only protect American citizens if the situation get out of control.
"i have the honor" It's just a formal way of talking to his supreme. He spoke like this in almost every letter
1:30 Panama 1941.
Elected in 1940, Arnulfo Arias was the President of Panama during two of the first years of the war. He was an overt fascist and regarded as pro-Axis by the Allies.
Arias' refusal to help the Allies by arming Panamanian ships, and his hard-line stance during the defense site negotiations led many in the United States government to conclude that "he had to go." One man said the following about a possible American invasion to oust Arias: "The present conditions are considered dangerous to the security of the canal and it is believed that they should be corrected as soon as possible. A local revolution to throw out the crooked pro-Axis officialdom would be preferable to intervention by U.S. forces." Shortly thereafter, on October 7, 1941, the Americans were granted their wish when a bloodless coup removed Arias from power. With Ricardo Adolfo de la Guardia as the new president, the defense site negotiations moved forward quickly and positively for the United States. Then the Japanese attacked the American naval base in Hawaii, which accelerated the process of negotiations even more. The new Panamanian government declared war on Japan on December 7, 1941, on the same day of the attack on Pearl Harbor, and a day before the United States officially entered the war. Panama then declared war on Germany and Fascist Italy on December 13, 1941, along with a few other Latin American states
Arnulfo Arias ran for president again in 1948 as the candidate of a coalition of his party and the Authentic Revolutionary Party and lost. However, a year later the National Assembly declared that he had actually won. He suspended the constitution and set up a secret police force. Corruption was widespread, and he was overthrown again in 1951.
So there is no proof of direct American involvement, just a wish to oust a president who refused to let them defend themselves against the Nazis and the Japanese
1:47 1948 Italian general election
The US and USSR both intervened in the Italian elections to aid their sides. The United States only got involved due to the fact the USSR intervened whose aim, unmentioned in this academic literature was to incorporate Western Europe into Stalin’s satellite system.
According to CIA operative Wyatt, "The Communist Party of Italy was funded...by black bags of money directly out of the Soviet compound in Rome; and the Italian services were aware of this. As the elections approached, the amounts grew, and the estimates [are] that $8 million to $10 million a month actually went into the coffers of communism. Not necessarily completely to the party: Mr. Di Vittorio and labor was powerful, and certainly a lot went to him," according to the former CIA operative.[13] Although the numbers are disputed, there is evidence of some financial aid, described as occasional and modest,[17] from the Kremlin.[18] PCI official Pietro Secchia and Stalin discussed financial support.[19]
2:00 the 1953 Iran coup
While Mossadegh was elected to the Majles (the Iranian Parliament) by democratic means (Iran at the time was not a democracy by any means, though some aspects of it were democratic in nature), the office of Prime Minister was nominated from amongst the Majles deputies by the Shah. In turn, the Majles members either voted for or against the nomination (In his initial appointment Mossadegh was approved by a tally of 79-12). Mossadegh enjoyed massive popularity at different times during his political career, but his position as Prime Minister was never due to a nationwide poll (he was PM on two separate occasions). This is not to say Mossadegh’s position was not legitimate. He was chosen by his constituency to be a Majles deputy, this is indisputable. He was not however, chosen by the Iranian people to be Prime Minister. This also does not account for the fact that the Majles was mostly comprised of feudal landowners, intrinsically opposed to Mossadegh and his populism. Before Mossadegh became Prime Minister, the Iranian public was unhappy with the state of affairs in Iran; Mossadegh with his sincere populism was seen by the Shah as a clever alternative to yet another feudal landowner or military officer.
The notion of nationalizing the oil industry in Iran first came up in 1951. The then Prime Minister (who had been appointed by the Shah in June of 1950), General Haj-Ali Razmara, went before the Majlis (the Iranian parliament) and said, “look, we don’t have the technicians or capacity to do this on our own. If you piss off the Brits, this is not going to go well for us.”Four days later, Gen Razmara was assassinated by a group “allegedly” aligned with Mosaddegh, a militant fundamentalist group called Fadayan-e Islam.
So a new prime minister was appointed and then the Parliament voted to nationalize the British-owned and operated oil industry. After pressure from both the fundamentalists and from the Iranian communist party, this new prime minister resigned after just a month in office. So the Shah appointed Mossadegh after he was nominated by the Majlis by a vote of 79–12. This was pretty touchy considering the fact that Mossadegh himself was from the Qajar dynasty and considered the Pahlavi kings (of which the Shah was one) to be usurpers of their throne. Immediately, Mossadegh inacts huge, sweeping reforms. Mossadegh demanded the power to appoint the Minister of War and the Chief of Staff, which had always been done by the Shah. When the Shah refused, Mossadegh resigned. A new PM was appointed but after five days of massive unrest, Mosaddegh was re-appointed and granted full control of the military as he had demanded. Now Mossadegh had the power to convince parliament to grant him emergency powers for six months to add any law he felt was necessary to get Iran economically successful but also to reform the electoral, judicial, and educational processes. His power was a balance of alignment with both the Communist party and the Islamists. Mossadegh cut the Shah’s personal budget, forbid him from communicating directly with foreign diplomats and transferred royal lands back to the state. He also expelled the Shah’s politically active sister. In Jan 1952, parliamentary elections were held but Mosadegh suspended them declaring concerns of foreign intervention. Of concern, he allowed the elections to proceed only long enough for his own supporters to gain power and then stopped any elections that may have put opposition parties into place. This gave him the majority in the Majlis to declare him PM again.
In 1953, he pressed parliament to extend his emergency powers for another 12 months. He implemented wide ranging land reform which essentially cut the legs out from under the Communist power since that had always been their key platform. As the Iranian people became poorer (because now they couldn’t export any oil), Mossadegh began to lose the support of his other alliances, including the Islamists. Losing power and expecting a coup (staged by the Brits and theUS), Mossadeghpresented a referendum to the general public to dissolve parliament and give all their powers to make law to himself. This voting occurred at different polling stations for “yes” votes and”no” votes, so it was clear who would be voting which way. The measure passed the public vote with 99 percent. So on August 16, the parliament was suspended indefinitely and Mosaddeq’s emergency powers were extended indefinitely. Three days later, a coup (supported and planned by the UK and US intelligence services) overthrew Mosaddeq, placing him under house arrest, and re-instated the Shah as the full and rightful ruler of Iran. The Shah then reinstated the Majlis. Granted, things kind of went downhill, but gradually so, particularly after the Shah realized he was dying. He feared that appearing physically weak would make him a target for a coup himself, and so he ramped up the internal oppression of his country. That, of course, made things much worse and his days were numbered at that point.

Abrahamian estimates that SAVAK (and other police and military) killed 368 guerrillas including the leadership of the major urban guerrilla organizations (Organization of Iranian People’s Fedai Guerrillas, People’s Mujahedin of Iran) such as Hamid Ashraf between 1971–1977 and executed something less than 100 political prisoners between 1971 and 1979 — the most violent era of the SAVAK’s existence.
2:20 1954 Guatemalan coup d’état
Arbenz was elected president of Guatemala in March 1951 after his anti-communist opponent -Francisco Javier Arana, was ambushed and assassinated near Guatemala City on July 18, 1949. Arana's driver survived and made his way back to Guatemala City, where he identified Arbenz's chauffeur and Capt. Alfonso Martinez Estevez, a close associate of Arbenz, as the assassins. The driver also identified the assailant's car as belonging to Mrs. Arbenz, a Salvadoran Marxist.
The Arana murder, not the ouster of Arbenz, was the beginning of political violence in Guatemala. Arana's death eliminated Arbenz's major competition in the 1950 presidential election and intensified political polarization. The Communists openly took the name Partido Comunista de Guatemala (P.C.G.), which was later changed to Partido Guatemalateco del Trabajo (P.G.T.) and is now one of the more active terrorist groups in the country.
During the presidential election, two of Arbenz's opponents, Miguel Ydigoras Fuentes and Miguel Angel Mendoza, were forced into hiding. Mobs interfered with the campaign of yet another candidate, Jorge Garcia Granados. Jacobo Arbenz Guzman took office amid charges of fraud and corruption.
Under Arbenz, the influence of the Communist Party in the Government grew. Communists had seats on all major committees in Congress. They held office in the Ministry of Education and in the Press and Propaganda Office. In the National Agrarian Department, they were the most important single political group and enjoyed enhanced influence in view of their ties with the President.

Arbenz considered himself a communist and joined the Communist Party in 1957. His land reform, designed by the Communist Party, was ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court, which he then purged. His regime openly praised Stalin, relied on the communists for key decisions, and received arms from the Soviet bloc-1. He killed hundreds of opponents-2. The CIA intervened because it feared that a communist dictatorship would become a Soviet beachhead in the Western Hemisphere-3.

Eisenhower's full qoute:
"I am convinced that the French could not win the war because the internal political situation in Vietnam, weak and confused, badly weakened their military position. I have never talked or corresponded with a person knowledgeable in Indochinese affairs who did not agree that had elections been held as of the time of the fighting, possibly 80 per cent of the population would have voted for the Communist Ho Chi Minh as their leader rather than Chief of State Bao Dai. Indeed, the lack of leadership and drive on the part of Bao Dai was a factor in the feeling prevalent among Vietnamese that they had nothing to fight for. As one Frenchman said to me, "What Vietnam needs is another Syngman Rhee, regardless of all the difficulties the presence of such a personality would entail."
he is complaining about the lack of options for Vietnamese beacuse "lack of leadership"...
3:24 1964 Brazilian coup d’état
Declassified transcripts of communications between Lincoln Gordon and the US government show that, predicting an all-out civil war, and with the opportunity to get rid of a left wing communist government in Brazil, Johnson authorized logistical materials to be in place and a US Navy fleet led by an aircraft carrier to support the coup against Goulart.
In the telegraphs, Gordon also acknowledges US involvement in “covert support for pro-democracy street rallies…and encouragement of democratic and anti-communist sentiment in Congress, armed forces, friendly labor and student groups, church, and business” and that he “may be requesting modest supplementary funds for other covert action programs in the near future.
Other than that, there is nothing else to show that they actually helped this coupThey just sent a ship and hoped it was a democratic coup
3:37 1965 Dominican Civil War
On April 16, 1965, growing dissatisfaction generated another military rebellion on April 24, 1965 that demanded Bosch's restoration. The insurgents, reformist officers and civilian combatants loyal to Bosch commanded by Colonel Francisco Caamaño, and who called themselves the Constitutionalists, staged a coup, seizing the national palace. Immediately, conservative military forces, led by Wessin and calling themselves Loyalists, struck back with tank assaults and aerial bombings against Santo Domingo. A few days of upheaval saw heavy fighting in the streets of the city and a pitched battle fought on the main bridge across the Ozama River, where civilians used guns supplied by their military allies to repulse the tank corps loyal to the military government, preventing it from entering the capital.
On April 28, these anti-Bosch army elements requested U.S. military intervention and U.S. forces landed, ostensibly to protect U.S. citizens and to evacuate U.S. and other foreign nationals
after that the first elections were held on July 1, 1966, pitting Reformist Party candidate Joaquín Balaguer against former president Juan Emilio Bosch Gaviño. Balaguer emerged victorious in the elections, after building his campaign on promises of reconciliation. On September 21, 1966, the last OAS peacekeepers withdrew from the island, ending the foreign intervention in the conflict.

3:50 Indonesia 1965
in an article in the December 1989 Journal of American History by Professor H.W. Brands of Texas A&M. Brands had studied declassified secret documents which showed that both the CIA and the embassy officials were taken by surprise when the six generals were murdered. He concluded, “The United States did not overthrow Sukarno, and it was not responsible for the hundreds of thousands of deaths involved in the liquidation of the PKI.” Brands made this comment on “bash-America” history, “The relative noninvolvement of the United States in the fall of Sukarno would be a nonstory except that the myth of American responsibility has proved so hardy.” After reading Brands’ article, Rosenfeld wrote a second column in which he said the subject was closed as far as he was concerned.
“In 1965, the State Department had virtually written Indonesia off as doomed to become a Communist dictator- ship, according to documents cited by Brands. With the complicity of the charismatic president, Sukarno, the Communists had taken over much of the government. The army was an obstacle in the path of total Communist control, but the State Department concluded that it would not take effective action to halt the Communists as long as Sukarno was alive. The situation changed suddenly on the night of Sept. 30-Oct. 1, 1965.”
Military officers aided and directed by the PKI murdered six of the top generals, including the chief of staff. Defense Minister Nasution was wounded but managed to escape. Maj. Gen. Suharto, who was not even known to the American embassy, defied Sukarno and took de facto control of the army. The CIA and the embassy did not know immediately what was going on, but they soon concluded that this was a “coup from above,” an effort on the part of Sukarno and the Communists in the government and the military to seize control of the army. Nasution and Suharto blocked efforts to put a pro-communist general in command.
“Communist-led military units seized critical installations in Jakarta and began broadcasting from the radio station they had seized, but they underestimated the availability of non-communist military units in the area. Suharto moved decisively to defeat the Communist4ed units and round up the top PKI leaders, executing the top three without trial. Suharto deposed Sukarno in March 1966 and took over the presidency, which he has held ever since”
Kathy Kadane’s story expressed doubt about the Communist role. She wrote, “The assassinations of the generals were generally believed to have been carried out by rebellious army factions who, according to the present Indonesian government were in league with the PKI. Whether the PKI was in fact involved in the assassinations of the generals, however, has been a matter of controversy among Asian scholars.”
Hugh Tovar, the CIA station chief at the time, says that abundant evidence of the PKI role surfaced in the trials of the PKI leaders, including confessions. He points out that the PKI paper had quickly endorsed the creation of”Revolutionary Council” to take control of the government, ostensibly in Sukarno’s name. In his 1969 book, The Collapse of Communism in Indonesia, veteran UPI reporter Arnold Brackman devotes several pages to PKI calls for violence before the murders of the generals. A PKI leader named Sudjarwo declared that the time was ripe to liquidate “subversives,” saying, “If necessary, the big calibre manipulators and their ring. Leaders must be shot.” Communist youth demanded that corruptors be “shot in public.”
There was no wave of revenge killings immediately in the wake of the brutal murder of the generals, but after three weeks the PKI made a move to take control, attacking police stations and other installations in Central Java. The leaders of the army and Indonesia’s largest political party, the PNI, realized that they would have to destroy the PKI and round up its leaders and cadres or be destroyed them- selves. This led to a wave of killing of Communists in the rural areas. No one knows how many died. The American officials who were in the country at the time all agree that the figures bandied about are at best wild guesses, not based on any actual body counts.
The New Yorker put the death toll at “more than a million,” while In These Times used 500,000. Kathy Kadane’s story said, “In a 1968 report, the CIA estimated there had been 250,000 deaths and called the carnage ‘one of the worst mass murders of the 20th Century.’” What the CIA report actually said is that the estimate of deaths ranged from “87,000, the official Indonesian government estimate, to 500,000.” It added: “The U.S. Embassy estimated the figure to be closer to 250,000. It would be a mistake to put too much faith in any of the various estimates. It was impossible even at the time, to get accurate figures of the number of people killed in one neighborhood…. Thus, there never was and never will be a reliable figure of the numbers dead as a result of the Indonesian coup.”
For Kadane to attribute the 250,000 figure to the CIA and to ignore the caution that all the estimates were unreliable was not simply careless. It was dishonest because she had been told how the embassy in Jakarta had arrived at an estimate of the number killed in response to the State Department’s insistence that it come up with a number.
Kadane interviewed Robert J. Martens, a political officer in the embassy in Indonesia from 1963 to 1966, at length. His tapes of these interviews show that he told her, “Nobody really knows the numbers. Nobody has the slightest idea how many people were killed.” He said the embassy had come up with an estimate of 300,000 because Washington insisted on having a number. He said the country team sat around a table in the embassy. “Most of these people didn’t have any knowledge,” he said. And (Amb.) Green asked each one what his estimate was. Each one popped up with a figure, and they took an average and sent it in.” Kathy Kadane exclaimed, “Oh, no!”
Martens told her of exaggerated rumors circulating of how the Brantas River was “choked with bodies” or “red with blood.” He said American consul Henry Heymann went to the sites and never saw a body. A British diplomat who lived on the bank of the Brantas “saw two or three” bodies that washed ashore. Martens personally saw no casualties. As U.S. reporters arrived, “each was trying to get a bigger and better story, and so they kept upping the figure.” Martens told journalists, “‘If you want to tell an honest story, you will say that nobody knows, including the heads of the Indonesian government, because they told us that they don’t have any idea.’ And the reply I got was, ‘If I don’t have a bigger number than my rival, my editor will fire me.’” “Oh, you’re kidding!” said Kadane. But he wasn’t.

4:25 - Chile 1973
There is no hard evidence of direct U.S. assistance to the coup, despite frequent allegations of such aid. Rather the United States by its previous actions during Track II, its existing general posture of opposition to Allende, and the nature of its contacts with the Chilean military- probably gave the impression that it would not look with disfavor on a military coup. And U.S. officials in the years before 1973 may not always have succeeded in walking the thin line between monitoring indigenous coup plotting and actually stimulating it. Cuba and the Soviet Union supplied several hundred thousand dollars to the socialist and Marxist factions in the government.

the notion that the United States supported Augusto Pinochet is also a false one.
From the Years of Upheaval By Henry Kissinger:
"It soon emerged that there were major obstacles to assisting the new Chilean authorities. To be sure, loans from private banks increased sharply as the expropriation issues were settled and the austerity program began to take effect. But the intensity of feeling against military governments in the post-Vietnam, Watergate Congress made it very hard to obtain governmental aid. The Commodity Credit Corporation loaned $24 million to replace food shipments from Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union that had been turned around on the high seas on the day of the coup. (This gave dramatic proof of the political motivations of Soviet aid programs.) In mid-November, our Department of Agriculture granted Chile an additional loan of $28 million. For the rest, we relied primarily on the PL–480 food program as a vehicle for meeting Chilean needs. Food assistance was less controversial since it would go to the hungry and because the Administration had considerable discretion in allocating it.
Ironically, the Nixon Administration was reluctant to carry out agreements on military supply even when they had been made with Allende’s government, lest they cause an explosion in Congress jeopardizing our entire foreign aid program. For this reason the delivery to Chile of three destroyers — promised to Allende! — was delayed by several weeks until the foreign aid bill had passed.
All of these maneuvers obscured the fundamental problem: How was the United States to reconcile its geopolitical interests and its concern for human rights? It would be idle to deny that we felt a sense of relief at Allende’s collapse. The new Chilean government, whatever its faults, would not assault our interests in every international forum as its predecessor had done. It would not be a haven for terrorists from all over the world threatening to solidify totalitarianism in Chile and to subvert neighboring Western Hemisphere governments. We could not convince ourselves that undermining the new government would serve either the cause of human rights or our own security. Yet there was no blinking the fact, either, that the very opposition parties and newspapers that we had attempted to keep alive under Allende were suppressed by the junta. The imposition of an authoritarian regime in a country with the longstanding democratic tradition of Chile was a special pity — but the circumstances that brought it about were extraordinary, too
Unfortunately, the issue arose in America at the worst possible time. In the aftermath of Vietnam and during Watergate, the idea that we had to earn the right to conduct foreign policy by moral purity — that we could prevail through righteousness rather than power — had an inevitable attraction. There was a mood of resignation from the world of hard tactical choices, reinforced by the historical American animus toward the concept of equilibrium. It was not the first time in our history that the aversion to power politics took the form of a moral crusade. And the fetid climate of Watergate endowed the charge of the Administration’s moral obtuseness with a certain credibility
Chile thus became caught up in a domestic debate transcending it; it had to carry the burdens of Watergate as well as of Vietnam. The Nixon Administration was not so insensitive to the Chilean junta’s clumsy and occasionally brutal practices as our critics alleged. But we considered that the change of government in Chile was on balance favorable — even from the point of view of human rights. We were therefore prepared to give the military leaders a chance; we made repeated private approaches to ease their methods. There is no doubt that our insistence on quiet diplomacy weakened our case at home even as it succeeded with Chile in many individual cases. It is equally true that many of our critics were retroactively blind to the totalitarian implications of Allende’s policies, ignored he danger of his alliance with Cuba and the Soviet Union, invented a role for us in bringing him down, and acted as if overthrowing the junta was now the sole valid national objective.
Senator Kennedy deplored the Nixon Administration’s “policy of silence.” On October 2, he proposed an amendment to the Foreign Assistance Act stating that it was the sense of Congress that the President should cut off aid, other than humanitarian assistance, to Chile “until he finds that the government of Chile is protecting the human rights of all individuals, Chilean and foreign — as provided in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.”The Foreign Assistance Act as finally approved by the Congress in December 1973 did not contain this provision but did include a request that Nixon call on the Chilean government to respect human rights. Senator Kennedy mounted another effort to cut off aid to Chile in 1974. NintendoWorldReport / Jordan Rudek 95 - 9.5 / 10 Wargroove offers a robust and content-laden package that turn-based strategy fans will adore. Switch
Game Informer / Suriel Vazquez 93 - 9.25 / 10 Wargroove offers several ways to get your turn-based strategy fix, whether it's playing through an hours-long campaign, creating your own scenarios, or playing online. Switch
Twinfinite / Zhiqing Wan 90 - 4.5 / 5 The wait has been worth it; Wargroove is absolutely a must-play title for fans of the genre and just Switch owners in general. Switch
Destructoid / Patrick Hancock 90 - 9 / 10 There's a lot to love with Wargroove. I definitely have my qualms with some of the campaign mission design and plot, there is so much here to love. I can't say that it's a completely innovate entry into the genre, but I think it's safe to say that Wargroove is a title that needs to be in every turn-based strategy lover's catalog. Switch
Nintendo Life / Mitch Vogel 90 - 9 / 10 As far as strategy games are concerned on the Switch, Wargroove is one of the best titles you can find on the eShop. Extremely deep and diverse strategy gameplay, ridiculous amounts of replayability, and charming presentation all combine to make this one an easy recommendation to anybody looking for a deep and cerebral experience for their Switch. Switch
TheSixthAxis / Dominic Leighton 90 - 9 / 10 In a world bereft of a new Advance Wars, Wargroove is a worthy successor. Its fantasy retro strategy stylings mark it out as a wonderful amalgamation of the classic Fire Emblem and Wars games, and while it doesn't revolutionise the genre in the way that the modern Fire Emblem games have it nails the feel of Intelligent System's best games – while standing proudly on its own. Switch
TechRaptor / Austin Suther 90 - 9 / 10 Wargroove is the turn-based tactics game you've been waiting for. It looks wonderful and sounds amazing, but it also plays so well. The strategy layer is deep but simple to learn. With several different modes in single player and multiplayer, there is something for both hardcore and newcomers of the genre. Switch
COGconnected / Scott Sullivan 90 - 90 / 100 For those who are eager for a new turn-based tactics game that succeeds at trying something new, or for those who have been keeping an eye on this game like I have over the past few years, Wargroove is immensely satisfying and certainly doesn’t seem to be going anywhere any time soon. Switch
Daily Dot / AJ Moser 90 - 4.5 / 5 From all angles, this is an experience you can truly tailor to do just what you want it to. Chucklefish has packed this game so full with meaningful experiments—and things that are worth seeing. Switch
IGN Spain / Ángel Llamas 89 - 8.9 / 10 Wargroove is going to become in its own right the spiritual successor of Advance Wars. Switch
EGM - Michael Goroff 85 - 8.5 / 10 Wargroove might be the least original game I've played in a long time, but it offers fans of the Advance Wars series something we've been lacking for a while. Thankfully, Wargroove does add enough subtle variations on Advance Wars' formula to create its own niche, and multiplayer is much easier than convincing your other friend with a Game Boy Advance to buy their own copy. Even if you're playing alone, there's plenty to see and do, as long as you're willing to learn some hard lessons along the way. Switch
IGN - Tom Marks 85 - 8.5 / 10 Wargroove's brain-teasing tactics and impressive level editor make it the Advance Wars successor fans have been waiting for. Switch / PC
Critical Hit - Darryn Bonthuys 85 - 8.5 / 10 Visually charming, deliciously deep and packed with extra content, Wargroove is a strategy experience that works comfortably at home or on the move. Switch
Wccftech - Francesco De Meo 85 - 8.5 / 10 Wargroove is the game fans of tactical role-playing games have been waiting for. The huge amount of content and play modes, solid gameplay almost completely devoid of RNG and excellent presentation make it a game that no fan of the genre should pass on. Switch
CGMagazine - Cole Watson 85 - 8.5 / 10 Wargroove is a deeply engaging strategy game that has the potential to continue to thrive and develop for years to come with a dedicated playerbase of creators. Switch
DualShockers 80 - 8 / 10 Wargroove: Who is it good for? Absolutely everyone! Switch
GameSpot - Chris Pereira 80 - 8 / 10 Wargroove doesn't shy away from its Advance Wars inspiration, but it proves to be much more than a mere copycat. Switch
USgamer - Kat Bailey 80 - 4 / 5 Wargroove takes a classic formula and repurposes it for a more traditional swords-and-sorcery fantasy setting (with battlepups). With its large number of modes and impressive suite of creation tools, it's almost enough to fill the Advance Wars-sized hole in our heart. Switch
Game Revolution - Alex Santa Maria 80 - 4 / 5 Unlike a lot of indie-level titles, Wargroove is truly fully featured. It's got a solid story mode, but that's just the start. The side modes and especially the map editor give you a lot of bang for your buck. Switch
Gameblog - Julien Inverno 80 - 8 / 10 It took a decade for the vacuum left by the absence of Advance Wars to be filled, not by a new game in the series but by Wargroove, an independent title that has all its qualities. The difference is the tone and look, the fantasy world rather than the military too, but for the rest, Wargroove is the turn-based tactical game that fans of the genre were waiting for, especially on Nintendo Switch obviously. Switch
Metro GameCentral 80 - 8 / 10 The best Advance Wars game never made and while there are a few flaws there's also plenty of new ideas and a mountain of extra content. Switch
Reno Gazette-Journal - Cameron Duren 80 - 8 / 10 Wargroove is a fantastic game in the turn-based, tactical RPG genre and a great starting point for anyone who has never played such games before. It also has a high skill ceiling for those who consider themselves experts. PC
PC Gamer - Malindy Hetfeld 78 - 78 / 100 Brimming character and imagination, Wargroove occasionally loses its groove over long-winded core gameplay. PC
PCGamesN - Jeremy Peel 60 - 6 / 10 Chucklefish's strategy tribute does nothing worse than Advance Wars, and little better - instead, it's exactly what it needs to be to spiritually succeed. It's small, in both character models and design ambition, but it's probably going to be massive. Despicable. PC
GameXplain N/A - Liked-A-Lot Switch
Rock, Paper, Shotgun - Brendan Caldwell N/A - Good In summary, it’s good and I like it. PC
Eurogamer - Christian Donlan N/A - No Score Care, generosity and love have gone into this attempt to recreate some legendary tactics games, but is it enough?
Waypoint [Vice] - Eric Van Allen N/A - No Score An accessible, charming way to trick your friends into playing strategy games.

God of War is an excellent game that has evolved and with a great quality in every aspect. The game feels more mature, profound and solid than we have ever seen in the saga. Its gameplay is still dynamic and its story will keep us in the edge of our seats from beginning to end. However, it lacks magic in some moments and has a few repetitive bosses, which does not allow this game to reach the perfect score.
Atomix - Alberto Desfassiaux - Spanish - 97 / 100
One of the most ambitious and well done video games ever made. God of War is almost the perfect evolution that the Hack & Slash genre needed.
Attack of the Fanboy - William Schwartz - 4.5 / 5 stars
God of War has seen considerable changes from previous games in the series, but they almost all feel like they were for the better.
AusGamers - Steve Farrelly - 9.8 / 10.0
I was always a critic of a Greek god being in an entirely different realm with different rules. I thought for sure the game was just using Kratos and the God of War IP to get it over the marketing line, but I've been proven massively wrong. This is a God of War game, and it's fucking brilliant. It has old-school game-design coupled lovingly alongside a modern storytelling tilt, and it marries the two in a contemporary and meaningful way. And playing on PS4 Pro on a setup like my Samsung QLED 65" Q8C with HDR, it just screams quality. God of War is back with one of the most rewarding experiences on the PlayStation 4 to date.
Cheat Code Central - Lucas White - 4.5 / 5.0
God of War feels ambitious in the best kind of way: the messy kind. It's not afraid to get its hands dirty digging at something it thinks is interesting, while knowing it might not find it at that moment. It's fine with not telling you everything, or with dialing back on the usual tropes of loud music, brutal violence, and hamfisted emotional manipulation. Sometimes, God of War just wants you to take some time and think about how you feel, and compare notes with Kratos as he struggles through his trauma to relate to his kid. And sure, sometimes you beat group of monsters to death by juggling them in the air with a magic axe and a pack of wolves made of lightning fired from a bow. It's still a video game about a violent, hulking bald man, but it's thoughtful and, most importantly, genuine.
CNET - Jeff Bakalar - No Score
God of War now sits on a short list of elite PS4 company. It will forever be a challenge to talk about the platform's best without mentioning its name. Truly, this is the type of game that comes along maybe twice a console generation.
COGconnected - Patrick Anderson - 95 / 100
Rest assured that another hallmark of the series, visceral combat, is also back and better than ever.
Critical Hit - Alessandro Barbosa - No Verdict
There's much more on the road ahead, and God of War is very good at sinking its hooks in deep from the outset. Its world is one rich with lore that makes up many journal entries and exciting finds, but its story of compassion and family is what's driving Kratos and his son forward. It's a fascinating dynamic to see slowly build, propped up by some clever environmental puzzles and (so far) exhilarating combat. There's a lot more to see here, but God of War makes a powerful first impression.
Destructoid - Chris Carter - 10 / 10.0
God of War is a different game for a new era of the medium. While I'm a sucker for more frantic arcadey action there are plenty of studios left carrying on that legacy. Unless something catastrophic happens to Sony Santa Monica, there's more story to tell, and I hope the exact same team is able to tell it.
Digitally Downloaded - Brad L. - 4.5 / 5 stars
God of War on the PlayStation 4 has taken me completely by surprise. As a game that follows on from the old games, but somehow turns it completely on its head and makes it a world worth investing time into feels almost like a miracle. It is one of those games that takes Norse mythology as a core idea and treats it with respect, while also integrating it seamlessly into the story and making it important to the narrative. I have a newfound interest in learning more about Norse mythology, and it truly makes a game special when it encourages the player to learn more beyond the scope of the game itself.
DualShockers - Giuseppe Nelva - 10 / 10.0
Cory Barlog and his team managed to reinvent the wheel, and while they added more pieces, it rolls smoother than ever before, providing the best God of War experience of the history of the franchise.
Easy Allies - Michael Huber - 10 / 10.0
God of War doesn't just feel like the next step for the franchise, but the entire video game industry. Phenomenal visuals, rewarding exploration, and a deep nuanced combat system contribute to an epic adventure that should be experienced by every human on Earth. Santa Monica Studio is taking us all to Valhalla.
EGM - Nick Plessas - 9.5 / 10.0
A fascinating story, sublime mechanics, and a beautiful world come together in an experience that is about as confident of a step forward as the God of War series could make.
Eurogamer - Christian Donlan - Recommended
Despite eye-catching changes, the heart of this series remains gloriously unaltered.
Everyeye.it - Francesco Fossetti - Italian - 9.5 / 10.0
God of War has changed. This new Nordic chapter transforms the series into an impressive action/adventure, rediscovering the value of exploration. Yet the soul of God of War is still there: and emerges, in all its imperious power, during the brutal fights and the violent clashes. As the main story progresses and the optional contents unfolds, God of War affirm itself as one of the most dense, surprising and rich adventure of the last three generations.
Gadgets 360 - Rishi Alwani - 10 / 10
All said and done, Kratos' PS4 debut is, if you'd excuse the pun, a god tier affair. Fan boys may deride the lack of spectacle and its nuanced take on a well-loved protagonist may not be for everyone, but its rare to see a reimagining to a series handled as deftly and with such polish and care.
Game Informer - Joe Juba - 9.8 / 10.0
An enthralling experience from beginning to end, with a mixture of great narrative moments and engaging encounters. God of War is a well-paced adventure that knows when to let the action simmer and when to make it boil over
Game Revolution - Jason Faulkner - 5 / 5 stars
The graphics, sound, combat, world, and plot all come together to make an exquisite package that is a prime example of why games are art and God of War is right up there with the best films and novels when it comes to storytelling. If you have a PlayStation 4, you should play God of War. If you don't have one, you should consider getting one to play this game. God of War has a great story and sets a new level in almost everything: from epic boss battles to the world building. And if you haven't bought a PlayStation 4 Pro with a 4K TV yet, now it's the right time to do it, if you want to see the peak of what entertainment industry of the 2018 can offer.
GamePro - Ann-Kathrin Kuhls - German - 93 / 100
Successful overhaul: God of War manages balancing modern action rpg features and classic GOW feeling.
Gamersky - 不倒翁蜀黍 - 9.7 / 10.0
God of War is a successful reboot of one of the most brutal hack-and-slash action games, and it's remarkable, fun and still uber-violent. The core gameplay has changed a lot, and Santa Monica did take a risk that won't appeal to some orthodox God of War fans. But all in all it turns out that those new game mechanics are so well-crafted and of course it's a great progress.
GamesBeat - Mike Minotti - 90 / 100
This new God of War takes a lot of risks. It trades blind rage and revenge for a story about a troubled fatheson relationship. It ditches fast, combo-based violence for something more methodical. It's a departure from everything that once was God of War.
But almost all of these risks pay off. God of War is an exhilarating, beautiful action game that turns one of PlayStation's biggest icons into a character you can care about.
GameSpot - Peter Brown - 9 / 10
God of War is every bit the over-the-top action game you expect, but it's the story and setting that end up stealing the show.
GamesRadar+ - Leon Hurley - 5 / 5 stars
One of PlayStation's finest moments, Kratos has been reimagined for a new audience while keeping the best bits of what originally made him great.
Gaming Nexus - Randy Kalista - 9.5 / 10.0/)
This is a skull-smashing story about making mistakes and taking responsibility. While hacking and slashing their enemies, a father and son build bonds of love and loyalty. God of War is a minor masterpiece.
GamingBolt - Aaron Main - 10 / 10.0
God of War is a phenomenal effort by Sony Santa Monica, one that needs to be experienced by every PS4 player out there.
GamingTrend - Ron Burke - 100 / 100
It's very rare that a game grabs me this completely, but God of War is, without a doubt, an early contender for Game of the Year. It's flawless in its execution, and the new benchmark for action titles. Well done, Santa Monica Studios, and thanks for taking us on this entirely new adventure.
Giant Bomb - Dan Ryckert - 5 / 5 stars
Sony Santa Monica makes us care about Kratos in this stunning revival of the series.
God is a Geek - Chris White - 10 / 10.0
One of the best games on PS4, and one of the best games of this generation. A masterpiece.
Guardian - Keza MacDonald - 5 / 5 stars
Kratos returns older and wiser, but exhilaratingly brutal in a story that deftly intertwines family drama and mythological epic
Hardcore Gamer - Kevin Dunsmore - 4.5 / 5.0
Vengeance may not be what Kratos seeks anymore, but that has done little to stop the God of War franchise.
Hobby Consolas - David Martinez - Spanish - 96 / 100
Every single aspect in God of War works perfectly in order to create a violent, yet moving masterpiece. Probably the best looking game of current gen consoles and a deep story, whose only weak point is that we get the feeling that the best is yet to come.
IGN - Jonathon Dornbush - 10 / 10.0
God of War's outstanding characters, world, and combat come together to form an unforgettable adventure.
IGN Italy - Gianluca Loggia - Italian - 9.3 / 10.0
God of War is a new beginning for Kratos, a different game, but still one of the best entries in the series and one of the best games for this generation.
IGN Spain - David Soriano - Spanish - 9 / 10.0
God of War very effectively achieves its mission to be a good reboot of the saga and a good sequel. Each one of the days of the five years of development of this new delivery is evident in the great values of production in each one of the sections, materializing perfectly in the constant sequence plane. Perhaps we only regret not having been presented with something truly original mechanically and not a mixture of ingredients that we have seen in other titles.
Just Push Start - Mark Fajardo - 9.7 / 10.0
God of War's new direction breathed new life into the franchise.
JVL - Malcolm89 - French - 20 / 20
We had to wait 5 years to get a new episode of the God of War franchise, but it was worth it. After getting lost with its previous episode, the serie returns to the top, which it has already known in the past. Managing the father-son relationship works great and Atreus is more than just an awkward NPC. All the elements of the puzzle fit perfectly and naturally to offer a memorable adventure that proves that risk taking can pay off. Even if he loses some of his excessiveness, Kratos has never been so indisputable in your library. It is impossible to miss this God of War if you own a PlayStation 4, the game takes a clear lead over the competition for the title of the GOTY 2018.
LevelUp - Rodrigo Muñozaltea - Spanish - 9.8 / 10.0
God of War is all you can ask from a new game in a franchise; very high production values, charismatic characters and satisfying combat, visceral with no lack of action. However, this is accompanied by a very well-told story, excellent animations, a very interesting new universe, fun gameplay and a new partner that develops a very promising personality. You can feel the dedication and care that Santa Monica Studio put into every frame of this game. Despite going in a new direction, God of War somehow manages to feel familiar and it is the worthy beginning of a new saga that surely has a lot to give us in the future. This is a very carefully made game that will certainly help define this generation and that is nothing short of a masterpiece.
M3 - Billy Ekblom - Swedish - 9 / 10
God of War manages to point out a new direction for the franchise. The fantastic environments, moving storyline and fierce combat makes this game an absolute must for every Playstation 4-owner.
Metro GameCentral - GameCentral - 9 / 10
A top-to-bottom revamp of the whole God Of War franchise that matches thrilling, if slightly shallow, combat and exploration with some impressively trenchant storytelling.
New Game Network - Alex Varankou - 80 / 100
God of War takes a classic franchise and reshapes it into the modern fold. The end result is a dramatic, polished, visually impressive and somewhat by-the-numbers PS4 blockbuster that slots along nicely beside the other exclusives in the console's library. It has plenty of content and fairly robust combat to entertain newcomers, while fans of the original games will likely enjoy the second half of the adventure a bit more.
PlayStation LifeStyle - Paulmichael Contreras - 10 / 10.0
God of War is an epic reboot of an epic franchise. The evolution of Kratos could have gone horribly wrong. Instead, Santa Monica Studio has given the franchise the treatment it deserves. This new narrative tone has heart, and serves to make Kratos much more relatable in his new role as protector, while remaining as brutal as past installments. Reworked and improved combat options make for an enjoyable and customizable experience, and phenomenal audiovisual performance ensures that each trip to the mythical lands before the Vikings is a wonderfully grisly experience. God of War is a must-buy experience well worth the wait.
PlayStation Universe - Kyle Prahl - 9.5 / 10.0
In God of War, story and gameplay unite for a gripping, memorable journey with unerring focus. Kratos' new beginning is masterfully written, emotionally resonant, and a thrilling challenge.
Polygon - Chris Plante - 10 / 10.0
Some die-hard fans may fear this isn't really God of War. I suppose they're right. It's even better.
Press Start - Shannon Grixti - 9 / 10 stars
God Of War is a cinematic masterpiece that manages to reinvent and push an already fantastic series to new heights. Barring some pacing issues in its narrative, Sony Santa Monica have breathed new life into Kratos and the God of War series, and I can't wait to see what's next.
PS Site - Paweł Musiolik - Polish - 10 / 10.0
God of War evolved to something entirely new. It's a well-written story where Kratos is so much more than screaming pile of muscles. All of this perfectly mixes traditional element of the series with fresh ideas.
PSX Brasil - Ivan Nikolai Barkow Castilho - Portuguese - 98 / 100
The God of War series needed to be reinvented and the Santa Monica Studio team did it masterfully. The change of perspective, the fantastic graphics, the new chapter of the story and especially the addictive combat show that God of War is easily one of the best PS4 games.
Push Square - Sammy Barker - 10 / 10
God of War is a special game. This reimagining of the famous PlayStation franchise elevates the series in unexpected ways, without forgetting the core tenets that made Kratos a fan-favourite to begin with. This is a sprawling single player epic with an abundance of secrets and a storyline that keeps you hooked from start-to-finish. While it borrows liberally from other action adventure greats, its unique combat and outstanding artistic direction separate it from its immediate peers. A truly impressive achievement.
Saudi Gamer - عصام الشهوان - Arabic - 10 / 10
This is a bigger, deeper and more mature God of War and one of the best reboots and a successful new beginning. A denser and richer world, a heftier and deeper fighting system and a multi-dimensional story, while maintaining the series' stunning visuals and art direction, epic soundtrack, breathtaking cinematography and all the rage and violence. This is the logical next step and the massive leap the series required and deserved.
SECTOR.sk - Matúš Štrba - 9 / 10.0
This isn't the same God of War that you know for all these years. But it is definitely the best God of War game so far.
Shacknews - Ozzie Mejia - 9 / 10
God of War was never the deepest experience, especially with what feels like limited enemy types. But the PlayStation 4 makes up for this in spades with an incredibly vast world and a heartwarming story. Beyond Kratos and Atreus, the game is filled with some surprisingly lovable characters. On top of that, finishing the main story doesn't truly feel like the end. While previous games made it feel like treading old territory to find everything, the post-game in this God of War makes it feel like the world has truly opened up.
Sirus Gaming - Carri Grant Raffy Abenoja - 9.6 / 10.0
God of War is so well-crafted, every scene is beautifully detailed. Even scary creatures have their own charm, making me hesitant to actually kill them with the gruesome finishing moves. God of War is one gorgeous game, from beginning to end.
Slant Magazine - Justin Clark - 4.5 / 5 stars
God of War doesn't so much suggest its ready-to-rumble predecessors as it does a more forgiving Dark Souls.
Softpedia - Cosmin Vasile - 8.5 / 10.0
Despite these shortcomings, I believe the God of War series is in good hands, and I wouldn't want anyone else touching it but Santa Monica Studio. Here is hoping greater times are coming to Midgard in the not so distant future.

God of War is the best thing happened to PlayStation 4 since Bloodborne. Nothing is out of place, nothing is ordinary. The art direction is amazingly inspired, the combat system is really deep and engaging, and everything on screen is, hands down, unlike anything else you ever saw on the PlayStation 4. Honestly, there's no reason not to play this new masterpiece from Santa Monica Studio.
TheSixthAxis - Jim Hargreaves - 8 / 10
A lot of what goes into God of War feels as though it was cherry-picked from the modern gaming zeitgeist. The semi-open world structure, loot system, and a much deeper narrative focus work well, but are all trends being pushed by most other big games. As a result, God of War can feel slightly homogenised in a way that some fans may find unappealing. Thankfully, a strong sense of setting and brutally satisfying combat help maintain that God of War identity. If it wasn't made abundantly clear already, this is the first in what will most likely be a new trilogy for the God of War franchise, and this first instalment serves as a pretty great foundation.
TrueGaming - عمر العمودي - Arabic - 9 / 10.0
The God of War series needed a big change of direction and it got that for sure. The final product is an adventure that will not be forgotten for a long time. This is a new and different God of War and we love it.
TrustedReviews - Brett Phipps - 4.5 / 5 stars
God of War tells a wonderful tale through a beautiful spectrum speckled with more than a few drops of the blood of your enemies. It's a shame, then, that boss fights have fallen by the wayside at every level to become terribly monotonous – but if that's the cost of what Santa Monica has built, it's certainly a price worth paying.
Twinfinite - Zhiqing Wan - 4 / 5.0
God of War certainly suffers from a lot of minor flaws that keep it from being a genuinely outstanding action-adventure title, but these feel like kinks that can be ironed out in time, perhaps when the next iteration in the series comes rolling around. Despite all my complaints about Atreus and the game's imperfections, this is still an easy game to recommend to anyone with a PS4. God of War marks the glorious and bloody return of everyone's favorite Spartan, and with the new dive into Norse mythology, there's still plenty of adventures to look forward to as the series evolves.

This is how you do a reboot. After Kratos lost his way, Sony Santa Monica has set the God of War on a new path. A more measure, nuanced character, a great supporting cast, an excellent combat system, and some of the best graphics in the PlayStation 4 game to-date add up to a winner.

Another masterpiece available exclusively on PS4, God of War is a new beginning for the saga from Sony Santa Monica Studios. A game that offers a deep story, a great combat system and lots of RPG mechanics that adds complexity and variety to the final experience. If you own a PS4, there is no doubt: God of War is a game that you don't wanna miss.

God of War proves that if there was anything that Kratos learned during his time in Grecian lands, it's how to have a proper adventure. Now that he is a little bit older, wiser, and more experienced, it's time for him to start to pass the torch on and become a family man.

From its renewed focus on storytelling, to its stunningly gorgeous world and incredibly satisfying combat, God of War is nothing short of a masterpiece, one that sets a new bar for what can be accomplished in the world of AAA games.

Of all the iterations of Kratos I've seen over the lifetime of the God of War series, Old Man Kratos is probably my favorite. His newest adventure might not have quite the same wall-to-wall bombast as the ones that came before, but he's added a new dimension to his personality. He can only stay Old Testament-angry for so long, and the table is definitely set for more installments. There's more to explore now in this new corner of mythology, and it'll be compelling to see if he burns everything to the ground or finds an even higher place to go.
ZTGD - Ken McKown - 10 / 10.0
God of War is, simply put, the best PS4 game I have played in the console's life-cycle. I can't stop thinking about its world and characters. I had so much fun exploring it and taking on its combat. I wanted more, and the game delivers. After having hesitations about the direction I thought the game was going, I am thrilled to report that all of my concerns were nullified within the first hour of the game. This is the true evolution of the series, and quite possibly the best game of the year. Well at least so far.

AngryCentaurGaming - Jeremy Penter Wait for Sale ~ Wait For Sale This is a 'Wait For Sale'. For Far Cry games, it's always two steps forward one step back and the improvements here are keen, but what my gameplay always came down to was the fact that the spawning system was just so out of control and everything felt so messy over time. Any engagement I wanted to have would always be infected by some type of badger or creature leaping in and attacking everybody, and at first that was fine, but when it stopped characters from being able to talk to me because they get halfway through their sentence and then some animal would attack and it reset everybody, that just started to get a little bit bothersome. PS4
Leadergamer - Emrah Subaşı - Turkish Essential ~ Essential Far Cry 5 learned its lessons from Ubisoft's mistakes and the game's series. Missions don't repeat themselves and offers fun and long gameplay. Despite minor mistakes, Far Cry 5 deserves to be liked.
Eurogamer - Edwin Evans-Thirlwell Unscored ~ Unscored Make Montana emergent again. PS4
Pardis Game - Alireza Razmjoei - Persian Unscored ~ Unscored Without a doubt, Far Cry 5 is the most varied game in the series. Thanks to smart changes to the exploring formula and of course amazing world of Hope County, we can finally say that Far Cry series has evolved. PS4
The A.V. Club - William Hughes Unscored ~ Unscored Montana features some of the most beautiful country in all of America, and Ubisoft has done an amazing job of capturing its rural glory. And the freedom to get credit for just f**** around in this gorgeous world, doing whatever feels most fun, is legitimately intoxicating.* PS4
Player2.net.au - Matt Hewson Unscored ~ Unscored Is Far Cry 5 just another Far Cry game? Well, yes it is, but at the same time, it is more than that. This is a game that has taken what came before it and improved upon it in every single way. The story is brutal, engaging and utterly enthralling, the main characters are memorable and the gameplay is refined and presented in a clever and natural way. So yes this is just another Far Cry game, it is Far Cry at its peak, the best that Far Cry can be and that is truly something worth playing.
Waypoint - Austin Walker Unscored ~ Unscored Despite a strong premise and updates to the series formula, FC5 fails to find a compelling identity.
CNET - Jeff Bakalar Unscored ~ Unscored Far Cry 5 is an awesome open-world action game, delivering the most fully realized, player-driven entry in the series to date. PS4
Kotaku - Ethan Gach Unscored ~ Unscored Far Cry games are laboratories for experimenting, giving you the freedom to do stuff ordinary games won’t, like throw a molotov cocktail at just about anything and watch it burn to the ground. They usually have better shooting than most open world games, and better open worlds than most shooters. Far Cry 5 nails that part of the series’ legacy. The game’s missions flow together organically and let you shift from capturing a cult outpost using an array of explosives and guns to scaling cliffs in search of hidden caches of equipment and lore-filled collectibles. It fails, however, to meaningfully move beyond the rest of the series in merging the violence and chaos these experiments produce with the community of people scattered throughout its world.
Saving Content - Scott Ellison II 100 ~ 5 / 5 stars Hope County, Montana is the American Dream turned Nightmare. Far Cry 5 is dense with activities, people, places, and events that are never overwhelming, but wrack you with indecision as to what to do next. While Far Cry as a series still struggles with the juxtaposition of its humor and seriousness, it manages to do this well enough to not let them get in the way of each other. Far Cry 5 is a shining example of how to revitalize the open world, as this is the best realized game in the series to date, with a convincing villain and a tale to match its tone. Far Cry 5 will make you a believer. PC
Windows Central - Jez Corden 100 ~ 5 / 5 stars Ultimately, Far Cry 5 is a relentlessly fun, aggressively varied open world shooter that will keep you hooked for dozens and dozens of hours. The game's world has never felt more alive, brimming with animal ecosystems, serene lakes, and verdant forests, with spectacular scenery just begging to be screenshotted. XB1
Cheat Code Central - April Marie 96 ~ 4.8 / 5 It might seem like I have a lot of complaints for a game I'm touting as being really good, but the positives of Far Cry 5 outweigh the negative. You can play exactly how you want. You can stealthily take down an entire region, before moving to another. You can run and gun your way through all three simultaneously. The characters that you meet are varied and engaging. There are tons of things to do and see, and plenty of real and virtual people to experience them with. Most of all, Far Cry 5 tells a story that grabs you by the shirt collar and never lets go. PS4
GameSpace - Damien Gula 95 ~ 9.5 / 10 Far Cry 5 is an artistic lesson in juxtaposition. On one hand you have a group of devoted followers of a "message of peace" that live in violence. You have a calm and charismatic leader who insights calamity. There are communities united in anarchy. Far Cry 5 provokes its audience to think and wrestle with the uncomfortable answers to our own "what-ifs" about faith, family, and the power of community. PS4
Hobby Consolas - Álvaro Alonso - Spanish 93 ~ 93 / 100 Simply put, Far Cry 5 is the best Far Cry game to date. It has the best story, the best progression and introduces a lot of changes (for the good) while maintaining that explosive old formula that works so freaking well. God Bless Hope County. PS4
Oyungezer Online - Utku Çakır - Turkish 92 ~ 9.2 / 10 Your visit to Hope County will offer an unforgettable experience. I can wholeheartedly recommend Far Cry 5 to everyone. XB1
VGN - Tommaso Stio - Italian 92 ~ 9.2 / 10 Far Cry 5 is the result of a strong development made during the past few years by Ubisoft. It really is a mixture of all the strengths belonging to this saga until today. Although this new chapter detaches from a well agreed scheme, as it happened during the third episode with Vaas Montenegro, it is still capable to draw a good starting point for this series. And of course, this is the best Far Cry ever made. PS4
Wccftech - Kai Powell 91 ~ 9.1 / 10 If you're wondering whether bringing the madness to our doorstep, making the entire campaign co-op and including an impressive toolbox to create new levels and missions while still retaining that visceral gunplay the series is known for keeps Far Cry 5 fresh and worth playing on Day One, my answer is: yes, absolutely. PS4, PC
IGN Spain - Juan García - Spanish 90 ~ 9 / 10 Far Cry 5 is as good as we were wishing, offering a great campaign with lots of freedom and things to do, a satisfying narrative and surprising multiplayer options through Far Cry Arcade. A pretty complete pack. XB1
COGconnected - Paul Sullivan 90 ~ 90 / 100 The characters and story really make Far Cry 5 a brave product. PS4
God is a Geek - Chris White 90 ~ 9 / 10.0 The best Far Cry yet, with well written characters, lots of freedom to play how you want, and a lot of fun to be had on your own or with a friend. PS4
Press Start - Toby Berger 90 ~ 9 / 10 stars Far Cry 5 is an absolute blast from beginning to end, chock full of things to do and involve yourself in. The narrative is interesting, and everything you do in Hope County feels meaningful in some way or another — making for an experience that feels as rewarding as it does enjoyable. PS4
SA Gamer - Garth Holden 90 ~ 9 / 10 Far Cry 5 is the height of the series and gives new legs to exploration in open world games while keeping the freeform tools to take down places as you see fit. Welcome to Hope County, you will be here a while. PS4
USgamer - Mike Williams 90 ~ 4.5 / 5 stars Far Cry 5 is a game that struggles in trying to serve two purposes. On one hand, there's a dark, horrific tale of a cult taking over a small town. On the other, it's a playground of destruction, letting players fly and drive around, blowing up things with a bear and a dog. Both sides are good, but they don't really meet in the middle. If you can survive the tonal whiplash, you'll find a great game here and Far Cry Arcade only makes it better. PS4
TheSixthAxis - Gareth Chadwick 90 ~ 9 / 10 Far Cry 5 is another improvement to a series that hit its stride quite a long time ago. It gets a recommendation not because of any of its individual features, but because they all combine together into a game that becomes paradoxically funny and horrifying, occasionally at the same time. It depicts a part of America lovingly with its tongue very firmly glued to its cheek, but when I close my eyes, I still see Joseph Seed staring back at me. PS4
We Got This Covered - David Morgan 90 ~ 4.5 / 5 stars Ubisoft have cherry-picked everything that has made the Far Cry series successful, and distilled it into a single, laser-focused package. Far Cry 5 probably isn't going to blow anyone's mind, but it provides a continuously fun experience that avoids the repetition and formulaic nature of past titles. PS4
PlayStation Universe - Garri Bagdasarov 90 ~ 9 / 10 Far Cry 5 is the best Far Cry to date. The great additions and refinements made to the franchise are fantastic. Along with the inclusion of Far Cry Arcade, which extends your play time, Far Cry 5 is the ultimate open-world first person shooter. PS4
GameSpot - Edmond Tran 90 ~ 9 / 10 [Provisional Score] With smart changes to exploration, discovery, and progression, Far Cry 5 makes engaging and experimenting with its gorgeous open world more exciting than ever. PC
CGMagazine - Cole Watson 90 ~ 9 / 10 Far Cry 5 was a blast from start to finish, pulling me into the experience instantly with an Americana rich world full of memorable characters and built with a strong core of addictive first-person gameplay. PS4
Attack of the Fanboy - William Schwartz 90 ~ 4.5 / 5 stars We didn't get it with the last two entries in the series, but Far Cry 5 feels like the generational leap that fans have been waiting for. This installment certainly feels like the biggest in terms of content and it just might be the best Far Cry game to date. XB1
Saudi Gamer - صالح بازرعة - Arabic 90 ~ 9 / 10 Far Cry 5 delivers on what has made the series special, with freeform gameplay, a hostile environment replete with colorful characters and a generous amount of content in both missions and activities, in addition to numerous gameplay tweaks and improvements. It might not be a huge departure from the series, but it definitely is the most polished one so far. PS4
TechRaptor - Samuel Guglielmo 90 ~ 9 / 10 Far Cry 5 combines a wonderful setting and interesting characters with extremely fun gameplay, a fantastic open world full of great side quests, and lovely presentation. It also has a powerful level editor that could make some real gems. This is a new standout for the series, as it's easily the best Far Cry has been. PS4
GamingTrend - Ron Burke 90 ~ 90 / 100 With new gameplay mechanics, overhauled progression systems, a strong narrative, and the Guns/Friends for Hire system, Far Cry 5 is the overhaul that the series desperately needed. It is easily the best of the series, and represents a positive step in a new direction. Come for the storyline, stay for the co-op chaos. PS4
GamingBolt - Shubhankar Parijat 90 ~ 9 / 10 Far Cry 5's open-ended and free-form brand of exploration, chaotic and emergent combat, immersive setting, and inherently fascinating narrative premise all come together in what is easily the best Far Cry game ever. PS4
Game Rant - Dalton Cooper 90 ~ 4.5 / 5 Far Cry 5 may not have much in the way of revolutionary new ideas, but it streamlines Ubisoft's open world formula and delivers one of the best games in the series. PS4
3DNews - Алексей Лихачев - Russian 90 ~ 9 / 10 A wonderful continuation of the series. Far Cry 5 adjusted a well-known formula enough to make the chase after brilliant antagonists very fun and exciting. PS4
VideoGamer - Colm Ahern 90 ~ 9 / 10 In its quieter moments Hope County is a picturesque backdrop to terrific Prepper Stash puzzles, and an over-the-top fantasy playground when the volume is turned up. Taking on Eden's Gate is compelling, horrific, and an awful lot of fun. XB1
AusGamers - Steve Farrelly 90 ~ 9 / 10 And so what we get in the end is a Far Cry that is both structured and full of open player-agency and emergent activity. It’s a game whose game-world is designed for you to love and adore, to become intimate and at one with; to be equally terrified of. XB1
Fenix Bazaar - Gaetano Prestia 90 ~ 9 / 10 [Provisional Score] Brimming with confidence, overflowing with content, and firmly established among the genre’s best, Far Cry 5 stakes early claim as one of the year’s best. You don’t want to miss the sheer insanity of Hope County, Montana. PS4
Stevivor - Ben Salter 90 ~ 9 / 10 Far Cry 5 is the thoughtful next step in a series renowned for shooting first and thinking second. The villains are devious, the world is intriguing and the wild animals remind you who owns the land. It takes the Far Cry blueprint and expands the highlights while changing the sliders on aspects that became overused to craft not only the best Far Cry game, but one of the best open worlds to explore this generation, whether alone or with a little help from a friend (or AI dog). XB1
Dualshockers - Lou Contaldi 90 ~ 9 / 10 Far Cry 5 isn't revolutionizing open world gaming, but it is a perfection of one of Ubisoft's most noteworthy series. With a captivating scenario, diverse gameplay options, breathtaking background, and a colorful cast of characters, Far Cry 5 is primed as one of 2018's earliest Game of the Year contenders, and potentially the best title in the series to date. Through more thoroughly leaning into the concepts of open-world design, Ubisoft has managed to craft a game that will really scratch your itch for exploration. PS4
GearNuke - Khurram Imtiaz 90 ~ 9 / 10 Far Cry series has finally made its return after a long wait, and it’s a bigger and more ambitious attempt on the same old classic Far Cry formula that the fans have grown to love across the numerous games. PS4
IGN - Daemon Hatfield 89 ~ 8.9 / 10 Far Cry 5 is another wide-open playground with all the necessary ingredients for causing a real ruckus: loads of enemies and allies, temperamental wildlife, and plenty of explosions. PS4, XB1
Cerealkillerz - Gabriel Bogdan - German 89 ~ 8.9 / 10 Despite a frustrating AI and a strong focus on Online Co-Op/Far Cry Arcade, Far Cry 5 is probably the best Far Cry experience so far. From a intuitive exploration over a varied open world and lots of amusing and crazy moments this game got everything that fans love about the series. It's still open how much long-term motivation the map editor and live events will offer but Far Cry Fans will be entertained for about 15-20 hours. PS4
Elite Gamer - Vinny Fanneran 89 ~ 8.9 / 10 A believable but no less intense story with tight gameplay set in a notably detailed and beautiful open world. Ubisoft have done an incredible job of refreshing another of their biggest franchises. XB1
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - Max Parker 88 ~ 8.8 / 10 There are few open world games that can match the pure escapism of the "Far Cry" presentation. With a few sanded edges, the gameplay can match that presentation.
IGN Italy - Gianluca Loggia - Italian 86 ~ 8.6 / 10 Far Cry 5, following the steps of the previous episodes, offers a very large map to explore and a lot of things to do, with a good first person shooter experience and interesting action/stealth possibilities. The game is not perfect in all of its aspects, but it's often very funny and always enjoyable, with a very fascinating and unique antagonist. PS4
PowerUp! - Leo Stevenson 85 ~ 8.5 / 10 Far Cry 5 is a brilliantly put together, sandbox game. Its focus remains on the various shades of human sanity, but rather than focus on the easily recognized evils, it forces players to look at a far more insidious kind. PS4
GamesBeat - Jeff Grubb 85 ~ 85 / 100 Far Cry 5 is mechanically sound and varied. You'll find something that entertains you, and Ubisoft has nailed all of the underlying elements of character and world progression. At the same time, it squanders some decent writing because it can't decide what kind of game it is.
Worth Playing - Redmond Carolipio 85 ~ 8.5 / 10 What I found there was a redneck action odyssey I didn't ask for and never knew I wanted, until I found myself in the late hours of the night raiding enemy outposts with a trained bear and a shotgun-bearing pyromaniac. PS4
Xbox Achievements - Richard Walker 85 ~ 85 / 100 From its tense opening to its blistering conclusion, Far Cry 5 is another cracking installment in the series, streamlining some of the hunting elements and putting co-op up front for both the campaign and the bottomless Far Cry Arcade. The narrative and characters will live on in the memory once you're done and dusted too, as will the insane random minute-to-minute moments that always succeed in making Far Cry so unique. XB1
The Games Machine - Ivan Conte - Italian 85 ~ 8.5 / 10 We cannot deny that Far Cry 5 is another "more of the same", warts and all, but the religious fanatic setting is spot-on, and Montana in simply wonderful (and Joseph Seed is one of the best villains the series has ever had). The open-world approach of the game works as usual, and the more you look at it as a big, sumptuous playground, the better. The Arcade mode has a lot, a lot of potential that will show its best in the upcoming weeks and months, when the community will start toying with the powerful editor. Enough as it is, Far Cry 5 is an excellent chapter in the series. PS4
Heavy.com - Collin MacGregor 85 ~ 8.5 / 10 The level of freedom and creativity offered to players alongside the shockingly rich story makes Far Cry 5 an extremely memorable ride. PS4
Gadgets 360 - Rishi Alwani 80 ~ 8 / 10 These issues notwithstanding, Far Cry 5 is a welcome entry in a series that's been consistently entertaining over the years. The campaign is filled with memorable characters, robust progression, and action galore that all combine to make it a treat to play. XB1
Gameblog - Gianni Molinaro - French 80 ~ 8 / 10 It seems like Far Cry 5 tries hard to be different in some ways. But in the end, it is obvious it doesn't want to - it can't - step too far from its predecessors. There's a feeling that even though its world is new, appealling, offers some good tweaks, a magnificient set of allies and villains, and a potentially unlimited content in Arcade mode, we still have the same game flawed with the same A.I. problems, we still complete the same kind of missions and see the same animations. As we sure can have fun and witness a fantastic ending, this can be forgiven. Until next time. PS4
GamesRadar+ - Leon Hurley 80 ~ 4 / 5 stars A polished and refined installment that values your time more than the previous games and keeps the focus on entertaining you throughout.
Spaziogames - Matteo Bussani - Italian 80 ~ 8 / 10 Far Cry 5 brings the player in a Montana Valley controlled by a religious fanatic group . The gameplay is solid and it is related to the past of the series. The game lasts 25 hours, guided by a non-linear storyline, and arcade mode is a solid way to increase the offer of the game. PC
Metro GameCentral - GameCentral 80 ~ 8 / 10 The best Far Cry yet and one of the best open world shooters of any kind, with an impressive variety of missions and non-linear structure. PS4
Zoomg - Mohsen Vaziri - Persian 80 ~ 8 / 10 Far Cry 5 is one of the best entries in this series. Guns for hire is a great addition to the game and the world always have something to offer. If the game had better AI and story had focused only on main antagonist Far Cry 5 could be something like Far Cry 3. PS4
Hardcore Gamer - Chris Shive 80 ~ 4 / 5 Far Cry 5 doesn't deviate too much from the Far Cry formula, simply expanding upon what the series is known for. PS4
M3 - Billy Ekblom - Swedish 80 ~ 8 / 10 Far Cry 5 is an epic soundbox experience, driven by the joy of exploration and all-out chaotic gunplay. It's all good fun, but also very familiar, and we can't help but wonder what would have been if Ubisoft put more story-driven elements into the game. PS4
GamePro - Hannes Rossow 80 ~ 80 / 100 A usual entertaining Far Cry game, that leaves a lot to be desired in terms of villain and story. PS4
GameMAG - xtr - Russian 80 ~ 8 / 10 Far Cry 5 plays best in co-op with a friend thanks to many crazy situations and fun moments. The basic story is not bad, but Ubisoft is copying itself and amount of recycled elements can upset someone. Still, excellent graphics, helicopter missions, treasure hunts and many other things make Far Cry 5 a good game. PS4
GameSkinny - Ty Arthur 80 ~ 8 / 10 Ready to plow through herds of bison with a death tractor and then get into a flamethrower fight before taking some relaxation time to go fishing? That's Far Cry 5 in a nutshell. XB1
Twinfinite - Chris Jecks 80 ~ 8 / 10 Far Cry 5 is exactly that – more Far Cry. If you’ve never been a fan of the series, this doesn’t do anything to change your mind. If you loved liberating outposts and blowing shit up in the Himalayas, you’ll enjoy doing it in Hope County, too. Its sprawling world, varied missions, and memorable characters all make for an incredibly entertaining experience, and helped me to overlook the niggling technical issues and occasional frustrating fetch quests in my 30+ hours in Montana. PS4
Easy Allies - Brandon Jones 80 ~ 8 / 10 Far Cry 5 will try to convince you the world is coming to an end. While the threat of the Eden’s Gate cult is ever-present, what we value most from our time traveling through Hope County are the individual encounters with clever quest-givers, our favorite specialists, or a trusty co-op buddy. It’s a shame the story unnecessarily brings things down to such a dark place, spontaneously interrupting your thrill-seeking pursuits with nothing but bad vibes. Far Cry 5 is like the 4th of July. There’s some serious subject matter being considered, but the experience is mostly about blowing stuff up. PS4
PC Gamer - Christopher Livingston 80 ~ 80 / 100 The wonderful chaos of the open world and your choice of how to tackle it is occasionally stifled by bad boss fights and worse boss speeches. PC
Gamestar - Dimitry Halley - German 79 ~ 79 / 100 Despite the interesting cultist scenario, Far Cry 5 only remains a good shooter with a miserably disappointing story line. PC
Gamersky - 不倒翁蜀黍 - Chinese 78 ~ 7.8 / 10 Playing Ubisoft's Far Cry 5 is just like chewing McDonald's Big Mac. It's really appetizing but never surprises me. I already know what it tastes like before actually biting, considering all the Big Mac are made by the same recipe. So does Far Cry 5. XB1
Game Informer - Jeff Cork 75 ~ 7.5 / 10 Virtually everything about Far Cry 5 is thoroughly okay. For a series that has provided so many thrills and surprises, that's a major disappointment. PS4
Destructoid - Raymond Porreca 75 ~ 7.5 / 10 Far Cry 5 is a solid first-person shooter set in a vibrant, breathtaking location. It plays well, looks great, and is packed with enough content to keep players invested in Hope County for a good, long while. Though Joseph Seed and Eden's Gate work better in theory than in practice, the Montana-based doomsday cult marks a departure for the franchise that pays off. PS4
Areajugones - Pablo Espinosa - Spanish 75 ~ 7.5 / 10 Far Cry 5 is an amazing action game that keeps the essence of the saga. However, its weak plot and map division are elements that make this game inferior to its previous installments. PS4
PlayStation LifeStyle - Chandler Wood 75 ~ 7.5 / 10 Far Cry 5 takes steps forward by upping the stakes with a sinister villain and bold new setting, while also stumbling backwards with its non-linear approach and separation of character progression from the world. PS4
Game Revolution - Jason Faulkner 70 ~ 3.5 / 5 stars If you liked the other Far Cry games, you'll like this one, because it's more of the same. Some of the series conventions have been taken away (like having to climb towers, thank God), or improved, but it's still very much a Far Cry game. PS4
Digitally Downloaded - Ginny W. 70 ~ 3.5 / 5 stars It never really realises the absurdity of the story that its telling even as it leans into absurd humour in plenty of other areas in the game. PS4
Push Square - Glen Fox 70 ~ 7 / 10 The best thing we can say about Far Cry 5 is that it's competent, and the worst that it's far too safe. PS4
Polygon - Ben Kuchera 65 ~ 6.5 / 10 What’s left if you have the stomach to ignore the story? A very enjoyable game with an immense number of things to do, a beautifully recreated portion of the United States, and a collection of missions with wildly varying tones and structure. It’s a finely tuned open-world game stapled onto a story that’s insultingly bad. PS4, XB1, PC
Guardian - Keza MacDonald 60 ~ 3 / 5 stars A mission to save the US from destruction by a charismatic leader flits between flamethrowing fun and graphic torture in a tonally unpredictable vision.
Giant Bomb - Jeff Gerstmann 60 ~ 3 / 5 stars A decent video game undermined by bad pacing, weak characters, and a wishy-washy world view. Play it cooperatively with a friend, ignore the characters and their motivations, and you'll probably have a good time. PC
Slant Magazine - Justin Clark 50 ~ 2.5 / 5 stars Whether intentionally or not, the game gives glory to a brand of grassroots militia fetishism that, just days before the its release, millions of Americans marched in the streets to oppose. Far Cry 5 posits that people would need to be brainwashed to follow men like Joseph Seed, blind to how deep Christian fanaticism already runs, and how many would follow such a man if he only said the word "please." PS4
Edit - I'm trying to put more popular review sites in italics. I'll be playing around with that to make them pop out more for people skimming. Maybe not make them stand out too much so people still give a chance looking at smaller review sites.

Website/Author Converted Score Critic's Score Quote Platform
VGChartz - Daniel Carreras Unscored Unscored Overall, Get Even is an ambitious game that unfortunately never manages to deliver on any of its potential. It starts out as a horror experience, before slowly transforming into murder-mystery, but never capitalises on any one single theme and as a result feels a bit messy. I can’t help but imagine that, had the developers at The Farm 51 stuck to a single genre and delivered a more concise story, Get Even would've been a great title. By all means give it a try, but don’t be surprised if, should you finish it, you feel deflated and a little bit baffled. PS4
Eurogamer - Edwinn Evans-Thirlwell Unscored Unscored A trashy, overwrought psychodrama with the odd inspired touch that alternates between simple forensic puzzles and gimmicky gunplay. PS4
GameSoulz - Soul Unscored Unscored Overall, it may be possible to enjoy Get Even, if you´re a sucker for interesting story-ideas, exploration-fanatic and a graphic lover (I guess), yet, Shooter fans will definitely not be satisfied with it. PC
Rock, Paper, Shotgun - Alec Meer Unscored Unscored Get Even is a true original, of the kind we all too rarely see made with this degree of gloss, and I found it deeply interesting for all its stumbles. PC
Do You Even Game Bro? - Zach Jackson 90 9 / 10 Narrative-driven games are my thing; I love getting lost and emotionally invested in a game’s world and story to the point where I simply can’t put the controller down. It’s very rare that games elicit that sort of reaction from me, however, The Farm 51 have done that with Get Even. I cannot stress enough how immersive the atmosphere and sound design are, I was compelled from start to finish. It is a must-play game if you’re a fan of narrative-driven experiences. PS4
GamePro - Dominik Schott - German 88 88 / 100 A unique thriller, which tells a twisty story with unexpected gameplay ideas. PS4, XB1
The Games Machine - Marco Tassani - Italian 86 8.6 / 10 Get Even is an excellent psychological thriller, crippled by some uninspired and dull action sequences, and a weak enemy AI. Nonetheless, the plot and the way the story is told make for an excellent experience, one that is definitely worth enjoying. PC
PS Site - Krzysiek Kalwasiński - Polish 85 8.5 / 10 Get Even is one-of-a-kind experience, which will be appreciated by fans of the complex thrillers. With different styles of gameplay, great music & sound and heavy atmosphere, it is a must-play. PS4
Stevivor - Nicholas Simonovski 85 8.5 / 10 There are only a handful of titles that I come across that I would truly recommend gamers to experience — Get Even is one such example. If you enjoyed titles like Quantum Break and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, with an element of thriller thrown in, you’re sure to enjoy this.
God is a Geek - Chris White 85 8.5 / 10 Get Even tries to do too much, but rather than getting it wrong, it succeeds on many different levels. It blends styles within the first-person genre seamlessly, tells an ambitious story without tripping over itself, manages to scare you, and connect with you emotionally. The shooting is satisfying and exhilarating thanks to some smart enemy AI, and the Cornergun is a great weapon to use. I enjoyed Get Even a great deal; it takes you to a place you weren’t prepared for, and whether you’re happy about that or not, there’s no denying that this is a unique and fantastic video game you should all play. PS4
Game Informer - Javy Gwaltney 83 8.25 / 10 In spite of a handful of glitches and aged visuals, Get Even is an inventive and ambitious thriller that makes the most of its sci-fi inspirations. PC
Impulsegamer - Tory Favro 82 4.1 / 5 stars Get Even is going to be a surprise hit title in my opinion. It just has that certain something to it. I do think it will be one of those sleeper hits that many will miss, but hopefully fans of the genre get behind it and spread the word. It certainly deserves it. A lot of thought has been put into the game to make it something memorable. PS4
Hobby Consolas - Hobbyconsolas.com - Spanish 81 81 / 100 Playing Get Even is like ongoing brain surgery to change the zones related to memory. And even with some rough edges (the graphics), the sound treatment and the script makes the operation a triumphant success: an unforgettable experience. PS4
TrustedReviews - Simon Miller 80 4 / 5 stars Get Even refuses to be pigeon-holed at any point, and though some people won't be able keep up with the madness, for those that can it's an entirely unique experience. Bandai Namco may just have the most interesting game of 2017 here, and a potential huge cult hit. PS4
Areajugones - Juanma García - Spanish 80 8 / 10 Get Even is one of the biggest surprises of the year. Very original, and an outstanding story that hooks the player during the whole game. PS4
GameSpew - Robert Gammon 80 8 / 10 The developers have created a very interesting world in Get Even, and the brilliant atmosphere coupled with varied gameplay makes for a very worthwhile experience. PS4
BaziCenter - Morad Halimi - Persian 80 8 / 10 Get Even is a fantastic action adventure with solid story, great narration and a mysterious atmosphere that tells the story of Mr. Black and Mr. Red. There are some issues in graphical and gameplay departments, but nevertheless it’s a very satisfying experience that will keep your mind engaged about the fate of the characters. PS4
Spaziogames - Francesco Ursino - Italian 80 8 / 10 A dramatic story told in a very fascinating way. The shooting gameplay is quite a disappointment, but the high level of the audio, and the enthralling plot sets Get Even on high standards. PC
IGN Spain - David Soriano - Spanish 80 8 / 10 Get Even excels in ambience (narrative) and sound design, but it's very limited by game mechanics and graphics engine. PC
GameGrin - Calum Parry 80 8 / 10 Get Even is a memorable experience and a well-delivered psychological thriller. Music and audio design stand as its high point, alongside the visuals and gameplay creating an immersive atmosphere. It truly is The Farm 51's best title to date, and Bandai Namco was right to give them the extra time needed to complete it. PC
PCInvasion - Peter Parrish 80 8 / 10 Like Spec Ops: The Line and Alpha Protocol, Get Even is a flawed game whose strengths dwarf the mechanical weaknesses. Expect it to start popping up on podcasts or in long-form articles in the next few months, accompanied by the ever-present caveat “well, the combat bits aren’t particularly good” and then praise for almost everything else. It’s probably going to pick up 6/10 type scores in most places that aren’t here, and I can completely understand why. The shortcomings are easy to point out, but Get Even delivers a complex, non-linear narrative full of clever misdirection, shifting truths, and conflicted characters in a way few other games can match. PC
Hardcore Gamer - Kyle LeClair 80 4 / 5 Get Even may be a bit polarizing depending on how you want to approach things in terms of gameplay and what you hope to get out of it, but it’s advised that you see it all the way through, as the end result is a highly satisfying game with an engrossing story that delivers in creepy, emotional and thought-provoking moments that helps it stand out, especially with its more subtle presentation of morality in gaming. You can argue that it may not be one of the best action games of the year, even when it delivers a tense moment, but its enjoyable hunt for the facts and the eventual truth highlights it as a winning adventure game. It may look sloppy, but it’s pleasantly surprising and worth going in blind for. PS4
TheXboxHub - Gareth Brierley 80 4 / 5 stars If you like story driven first person adventure games, then you can’t go wrong with this. It’s inventive, brilliantly told and designed, with great voice over work. XB1
TechRaptor - Samuel Guglielmo 80 8 / 10 Get Even has some clunky mechanics, but has such a fantastic story that I wasn't that upset with them. Also it has a great soundtrack, some fun puzzles, and the CornerShot which is an awesome gun. PS4
COGconnected - Patrick Anderson 78 78 / 100 Get Even has no shortage of cool ideas and ways to appeal to different play styles – but the parts don't quite come together as a coherent whole. PC
Oyungezer Online - Utku Çakır - Turkish 78 7.8 / 10 Get Even glues players to their chairs with its amazing story and superb sound design. Even with its shortcomings, Get Even is a game worth to experience. PC
IGN Italy - Davide Ambrosiani - Italian 75 7.5 / 10 Get Even uses the FPS formula to deliver a touching and deep story. Despite some technical failings, the narrative and the sound make the trip worth to be made. PS4
EGM - Michael Goroff 75 7.5 / 10 Get Even is better as an experience than as a game, but it's an extremely evocative experience. Even still, what could have been a completely unique gaming experience is hampered by its desire to be a more action-oriented, generic thriller. XB1
Use a Potion - Daryl Leach 73 7.3 / 10 You’re not going to be blown away by what Get Even offers and it often lacks the polish that a triple-A title holds, but it does more than enough to justify a playthrough. If you fancy playing something a little different to the norm that’ll hook you in with its engaging story and entertaining gameplay, it’s certainly worth giving Get Even a try. PS4
Xbox Achievements - Richard Walker 70 70% A bold and interesting Inception-inspired crack at delivering a twisty turny story, Get Even succeeds in making exploration and collectibles enjoyable, while the later combat engagements prove to be a grind. Overall, however, Get Even is a fun, if somewhat convoluted, first-person yarn. XB1
PlayStation Universe - John-Paul Jones 70 7 / 10 A sometimes beguiling yet, frequently intriguing blend of first-person exploration and shooter genres, Get Even's uneven execution results in a game that is commendable for its ambition and relentlessly engaging narrative, but one which ultimately fails to come together in practice. PS4
TheSixthAxis - Jim Hargreaves 70 7 / 10 While it has its flaws, there's a uniqueness to Get Even we rarely see in video games today. Right away, The Farm 51 demonstrates its desire to be different, crossing between genres and actually taking a gamble. While it doesn't always pay off, we're still left with something both intriguing, experimental and, at times, thought provoking. PS4
GameSpot - Eddie Makuch 70 7 / 10 The Farm 51's psychological thriller tells a story you won't forget. PS4
TrueGaming - خالد العيسى - Arabic 70 7 / 10 If you're one to appreciate mysterious brain teasers with a touch of beautiful tunes, then you'll find a pretty fun story in Get Even at an inexpensive price point too. XB1
Cultured Vultures - Nicholas Monahan 70 7 / 10 Despite some significant deficiencies in the gameplay department, Get Even more than makes up for dull shooting and inconsistent, frustrating stealth with a well-told, genuinely emotional and thought-provoking take on the "enter memories/dreams" concept. At $29.99, it's well worth the 12 or so hours you will spend exploring its web of deceit and discovery, and you may appreciate a horror game where you get to just shoot all the crazies instead of running like a sissy. PC
Gameplanet - Chris Brown 70 7 / 10 Get Even is a strange game. It's almost schizophrenic in its execution, but The Farm 51 should be applauded for trying something different. It represents what I love about independent game development: it maybe a little rough around the edges, but it takes risks and provides a truly unique experience. For that I applaud it, even if I cannot unreservedly recommend it. PC
TrueAchievements - Mark Delaney 70 3.5 / 5 stars Get Even uses some light brushstrokes of cliches but ultimately paints a picture much more unconventional than it may at first seem. In both story and gameplay, your expectations will be subverted several times over. Not all of its risks pay off, but when they do they ensure the game is a refreshing addition to the medium. Part shooter, part exploration and investigation while always compelling, Get Even is the strange mashup of Saw and Eternal Sunshine we never knew we wanted. If you play games for story and can forgive some forgettable shootouts and visuals, Get Even may someday be a fond memory of yours. XB1
GamingBolt - Alex Jackson 70 7 / 10 Get Even is the core of a fantastic, provocative game that has the potential to be the kind of experience that only games could do, but that core gets rather frustratingly lost within decisions that would better fit within a box standard shooter that impudently goes after Call of Duty’s crown. This is a game and a team with potential, but with Get Even, you’re only getting a glimmer of that. PC
VideoGamer - Alice Bell 70 7 / 10 Get Even's use of layered sound and even more layered story is unsettling and great, but other awkward mechanics make this psychological thriller a bit less than the sum of some very fine parts. PS4
3DNews - Денис Щенников - Russian 70 7 / 10 One of the best stories in games for the last few years. Wish I could say the same about other parts of Get Even… PC
GamingTrend - Hunter Wolfe 70 70 / 100 Get Even is a respectable first-person shooter, sure. But despite finishing the game eager to start a second playthrough to experience the story with new perspective, the lack of player choice was a considerable disappointment. I felt duped for hunting down every piece of evidence during my time with Cole Black, because it didn't influence the truth that ultimately emerged. This omission reduces Get Even from an imaginative game to a passable one that made me feel I was watching a thriller film more than playing a game. PS4
NZGamer - Blair Loveday 69 6.9 / 10 Despite its flaws, Get Even is still a very worthwhile experience. The game’s narrative is a little predictable, but it’s told well. It builds tension unlike anything else, and uses jump scares sparingly to give maximum effect. It’s a great game, with unfortunate quirks holding it back – which will hopefully get patched out. PS4
PCGamer - Andy KElly 66 66 / 100 There’s genuine ambition and imagination on display in Get Even, and I wish I liked it more than I do. But I feel like it would have been better, and more focused, without the first-person combat—or at least a lot less of it. I’m compelled to learn more about Black’s past as I play, but then I have to kill or sneak past some guys and everything grinds to a halt. A confusing tangle of a game, then, but the mystery-laden storyline might just be enough to pull you through some of the weaker action moments. PC
JVL - Malcolm89 - French 65 17 / 20 With a minimalist gameplay and offering the worst experience ever seen in a FPS, Get Even nevertheless succeeds in making an impression. With a great atmosphere and a quality soundtrack, the game brings a sweet madness in our sessions. The narration and acting of the main characters fascinate us during this well-designed investigation, even if there are some clich's. With more open areas and a better technique, Get Even could have been one of the unforgettable games of our summer, but instead of that, even if it's not memorable, it will bring you a cheerful experience. PS4
Saudi Gamer - سندس الخباز - Arabic 60 6 / 10 Get Even is great game for mystery fans, the story is very unique and won't stop surprising you. Although the beginning requires some patience due to the slow rhythm and not having enough events going on. The graphics are not suited for PlayStation 4 and Xbox one, which makes it harder to fight dizziness with the first-person view. PS4
Metro GameCentral - GameCentral 60 6 / 10 A tangle of technical and gameplay issues often obscure it, but there’s some impressive storytelling to be had in this ambitious techno-thriller. PS4
GameZone - Cade Onder 60 6 / 10 Get Even falls short in a number of places such as its gameplay and its technical performance. The only saving grace of the game is the unique, well-told story but that can only carry it so far. PS4
** SA Gamer** - Marko Swanepoel 60 6 / 10 Get Even is a title that is polarising in its presentation. While the mysterious and choice-driven narrative along with the characters is hugely interesting, the gameplay is woefully deficient with a developer that clearly did not know which direction it wanted the gameplay to take. While messing around with different genres and styles, it failed to create its own identity. However, it is worth the playthrough for its narrative alone, but I do not recommend it at its full price, even if it is lower than usual. PS4
GameMAG - xtr -Russian 60 6 / 10 At first Get Even grabs your attention, but after a while you realize that before you only an imitation of a quality product with a completely unnecessary combat, boring story and dull characters. And this is for an intelligent psychological thriller just a terrible omission. PC
Critical Hit - Geoffrey Tim 60 6 / 10 It’s ambitious, imaginative and often intriguing and does its best to deliver something fresh and unique. Unfortunately, Get Even fails to nail down the fundamentals, resulting in a sadly disjointed, overwrought experience. PS4
Wccftech - Christian Vaz 55 5.5 / 10 Get Even's goal is to get the player to question what is real and what isn't. While it succeeds in achieving this, I can't help but feel that it may be slightly too vague to truly hook its players. You'll spend a lot of time reading newspaper clippings and other scraps of paper that will eventually build a complete picture, but I struggled to muster the willpower to locate all of that information. There is very little that entices me to revisit Get Even and although it wasn't necessarily a bad experience, it certainly isn't a Game of the Year contender either. There's no questioning that Get Even offers a different dimension to the first person shooter genre, yet it struggles to maintain the aspects that make it most unique, quickly devolving into a repetitive cycle. PC
PlayStation LifeStyle - Ahmed Mohamed 55 5.5 / 10 Get Even is almost afraid of what it could have been, settling for a more traditional horror experience instead of becoming what it really wants to be. The genre has been healthy in recent months, but a wildly different approach is always welcome and Get Even only accomplishes that in fleeting moments. PS4
The Outerhaven Productions - Veronica Ciotti 50 2.5 / 5 stars Get Even is not a bad game. In fact, there are moments where its storytelling and atmosphere really shine. However, it is held back by its gunplay, stealth, and at times an overly complicated plot. I felt relieved when all the pieces came together and the ultimate mystery revealed itself, but that doesn't excuse the confusion I had during much of the game. Perhaps the complex story could be forgiven if the game was a little more fun. It's unfortunate because there are elements of a good game in Get Even, but ultimately it tries to do too many things and only succeeds at a few of them. PS4
Push Square - Liam Croft 40 4 / 10 Get Even had a good base of neat ideas, but the execution of the overall product is so poor that many areas feel unfinished. Combat is quite simply a disaster, the graphics look like they've been taken from a 2008 PS3 game, and the soundtrack crushes your enjoyment far too often. The plot may well grab your attention, but the act of actually playing Get Even is nothing but a chore. PS4

I watched the video you posted of the guy being burnt alive. What is the worst / most haunting thing you have seen? When I was in boarding school, we had a female ex-soldier for a nurse. She ended up treating us kids like soldiers which led to the slow death of a friend of mine. He was a star athlete and stepped on a nail. I think he had tetanus. The nurse did not treat him well, she always hit him and yelled at him until one day his breathing became shallow and he started vomiting a black liquid from his mouth and nose.
Edit: Here's the video (SERIOUSLY NSFW) Link to www.liveleak.com. 20 minutes before that happened, I was going for an excursion (field trip) and I met him breathing hard in the room. He grabbed my arm as I walk passed him and said he couldn't breathe due to chest pain. I said he should not worry and slowly forced his hands off. I did not tell anyone what had happened only to hear people screaming and rush in to see him on the floor rolling and vomiting. He died on the way to the clinic.
Did anything come of it? What did his family say? The nurse was fired. Too little too late. The principal got chased out of the boys house by his crying gun wielding 60 year old father.
What happened to the father? I imagine waving a gun around would have some bad consequences. Nope. You can't get arrested for just holding a weapon in your own home.
I dated a girl from Nigeria for a few years and her and her sister talked about One timers. Supposedly people being kidnapped and sold to Voodoo practitioners. Is this real? If so what do you know about it? Yes. It's called one chance. You get on a bus and get your journey diverted to a remote area where you are used as sacrifice. Very real .
How do they chose people for this? How would you know if you have been chosen? What are your chances of surviving once chosen? Ennie minnie miny moe? If you were chosen, your bus ride would take an unual detour. I heard they charmed the occupants to sleep. Can't confirm that though. Your chances of surving are based on if the gods are full.
Damn. Did you know anybody who this happened to? Was it common? No I did not. I did read some accounts in the paper though.
"Charmed them to sleep"? Surely you aren't implying that they used magic. You mean drugged them to sleep or something? Yup.
Anyways, 1. Are you the guy who owes my friend 10 billion dollars? 2) Constant state of alert. We would hear the gunshots all night. Screams. Explosions from locally made bombs. My father had Muslim friends who used to hear about plans of attack through the grape vines so we would keep moving from house to house. Most of the houses we stayed in were Muslim houses that hid us since the Muslims were on the offensive.
If your childhood wasn't that bad, did you grow up in a wealthier part of Nigeria? Or were acts of violence like the video you've posted normal for everyone, no matter the income? I did not grow up in a wealthy part of Nigeria. But I did not grow up in abject poverty either. My parents were not rich but they never spared expenses in sending us to good schools. From a very young age, my mother made sure to buy me novels while my father would sit me on his lap and we'll read news papers together. That all changed when my little sister was born... O_O.
What do you mean by "my childhood wasn't shite"? Are you more privileged than others in your situation, i.e. wealth/social standing? What do you think could have made your childhood "shite"? I am privileged. I went to good schools and had a very strict reading culture fostered by my parents. If that's not privilege I don't know what is.
Thanks for the AMA, what is modern society like in Nigeria? Are cities modern, is Nigeria still a third world country? thanks. - Ignorant American. We have very modern areas. But then around the modern areas we have moats of shitholes. You can only get there through the draw bridge of money.
In your area what do you classify as a "normal" amount of crime? For instance where i live a murder or some robberies a week is normal. I ask since most people i know think/are told that area is full of crime. I'd say its the same thing. But it does tend to go up during election season with assassination galore.
Do they ever catch any of the people doing the assassination, or do they just end up saying screw it there are to many? We don't have the infrastructure for constant electricity mate talkless of any form of "Forensic science". All we can do is speculate. When the under paid police officers themselves are pawns of the politicians, who do you expect to catch the "criminals"?
Is this assassination of political leaders, local elections, or murders of supporters? Could you elaborate on why murder rates increase during the electoral process? It's assassination of both. Political rivals send hitmen to eliminate the competition. They send thugs to the voting booths to monitor the ballots. It's a do or die affair and everyone knows the rules of the game. In the words of Frank from House of cards "it is either hunt or be hunted"
So essentially a mafia state? I mean, is there a real distinction here between mafia-like behavior and what you see from the Nigerian "government"? Edit: I a word. Nope, you're pretty much spot on.
I live in the UK. Why is it all the Nigerian guys I know seem to give themselves names like "Spider" and "Friday"? Because it's cool. Would you fuck with a guy who names himself spider?
Spider from Goodfellas got fucked with quite a lot. He shouldn't have told pesci to go fuck himself.
What do you think of 230 schoolgirls being abducted from schools recently? It happens mate. Sad as it is. People are desperate.
I find the lack of media attention for this in the rest of the world surprising.. We are talking about more people than that went missing on MH370..and they're kids, for christ sake... When something occurs constantly, it is no longer news.
Desperate about what exactly and how is that solved by abducting schoolgirls? Resources, money?
Was this true for you when you left Nigeria? If so, do you think your views have changed after living in the West for awhile? Yes in Nigeria it does get a bit dog eat dog, but I would say that on the whole, the people can be helpful.
So is she the youngest? Yes she is. And the only girl too.
I once asked a gambian collegue (whose ethnicity is mandinka and religion muslim) about how people who were more into older religions were accepted in gambian society, and he said ppl were basically afraid of them and didn't mess with them. is that similar to how it is in nigeria? People are very conservative in Nigeria and Africa as a whole. They fear (Juju/voodoo) and most of the early religions before colonialism were the African traditional religions so you have to understand there is still a subset of old people who grew up with such religions.
What's a corpse farm? You rear captured humans with the rules of animal husbandry. You sacrifice them to the gods when you deem fit. Feast for all :)
Did you know anyone who was killed in the riots? Yes. My neighbour's nanny died when she went back to her burning home and was searching for her husband. Her body was found and had been hacked with a machete.
What is one random act of selflessness that touched your heart the most? A Muslim bus driver hid some Chrsitian passengers from a Muslim mob during one of the riots.
Do you currently still live in Nigeria? Nope. Got outta dodge a couple of years back.
If I may ask, what country do you live in now? Canada now.
Do you ever have a desire to go back? Would you feel comfortable going back? I do. It is home after all. If not for anything just the fact that the taxes are not so prevalent there than in the west here.
Do your parents and siblings still live there? If so, have they settled down well after being on the run during the main conflict, or are they uneasy and looking over their shoulders in case it all kicks off again? If not, where do they live now, and do they feel safe there? My family moved away from there recently.
Where/how did you learn english? My roommate is Nigerian and he doesn't know these colloquialisms as well as you do. I just read novels a lot. Watched cartoons. Had a knack for it.
Ahh welcome fellow countryman to the land of pine trees and snow. Speaking of which, how did you react to the snow and other weather? It's brutal. The winter was ridiculous. After complaining about rain in London.
Where in Canada? I'd love to buy you a beer! (Alexander Keith's or Big Rock, no watery American stuff). ON.
Children dying from tetanus, witch-doctors with corpse farms, annual coups and assassinations, all run by a mafia state, but you site western taxes as a reason to move back? Everybody hates taxes, but that comment struck me as really odd. If Nigeria, as a sovereign state, is to get organized, how is going to build infrastructure to address most of the problems you've outlined? Yes, but then if we stack the ills of every nation it will sound like earth needs another flood wouldn't it. I'm just saying, wealth and success are easier to maintian there than in the west. I'm greedy. I don't like taxes. I want to buy pizza with my taxes.
How hard was the moving process for them? Was it a tough process to help them move, or was there little attention paid by border security, international security? My father worked in immigration and my mother was well traveled so not really.
Success and wealth may be easier to maintain (debatable), but impossible to create in that environment due to the corruption. You seem to be looking at an arbitrage opportunity of being born and raised there, getting out to make some money, then potentially going back to enjoy it. Finally someone gets it. That's exactly it.
What's it like having a birthday so close to Christmas? It fucking sucks mate. My father and mother always argue on whether i was born on the 30th or 29th. I always end up missing both days due to arguements. On the plus side, my eldest brother was born on the 3rd of january and he gets all the attention even now that we're men. I don't care. -_-
We have the same birthday! Happy co-birthday, op. I guess I have to kill you now.
Why do you believe such acts of violence occur in your part of the world and not as much in others? What are the reasons for such acts of modern violence? Poverty and lack of education. When you hammer people so much to the point of complacency, eventually someone is going to go mad. Nigeria just started a democratic rule in 2000, the previous periods since the 1960's were military rule so you gotta know how far back the iron hand goes.
Why witchcraft though? Africa and India are the only places I hear about this coming from communities (countries with Sharia Law excluded since their enforcement mostly comes from government, not community.)? I understand that education is poor, but do people really still blaim Satan and wicked witches for their problems? We are behind in terms of social leanings. It'll take sometime to evolve.
Were you traumatized? how did it feel to witness such things in real life? I mean the panic and the emotions, adrenaline etc. I wouldn't say traumatized since it's something I've grown up with. Panic definitely but not trauma.
What would you do to solve the Boko Haram problem? With a Nuclear weapon and thirst for blood. Just kidding. With a rail gun and thirst for blood.
What is education like in Nigeria? Good meaning highly competitive or piss poor meaning the teachers can barely string sentences together. There is no middle ground.
I don't agree. source: I went to a "middle ground" school in Nigeria. What school if I may ask?
What was your biggest culture shock when you left Nigeria? Not much really. I basically knew how things worked in the west. We watch you guys on cable more than you think. We adopt and absorb your cultural exports mate. Well done.
I had a good friend in college that came from Nigeria. He said pretty much the same thing, but that the first time he went into a Walmart he was floored. Yeah we don't really have metro super stores everywhere.
Was there anything you experienced that they don't show on tv and came as a surprise? Other than flash mobs dancing in malls no. I thought High school musical was fake.
Do you have any feelings for Nigeria or thinking of going back to rebuild / contribute? I think once I establish myself, I might go back and revamp the current entertainment sector. The only way to gain the world's interest is by success. Neil Blomkamp put South Africa on everyone's radar ... And made Nigerians look like alien fuckers. O_O.
Good thing is our penis doesn't discriminate based on our district 9 portrayal.
That's good, because you'd be pretty hard-pressed to find any real life aliens! I've read that Africa is actually beginning to really beginning to grow its own cinema movement in the vein of Bollywood - if you were to go back and work in the entertainment sector, would you try to make more western-oriented productions, or would you be making films catering to the people of Nigeria? I'd try to bridge the gap between both. Making western styled movies in slums is never a risky venture. Blakc Hawk Down and Distric 9 as examples.
BH conducted its operations more or less peacefully during the first seven years of its existence - what changed in 2009, do you think? That's the thing. Nothing changed. I think that's why they just went bat shit insane. They started out as just outspoken radical uneducated clerics and were ignored. It wasn't until they took up arms that shit hit the fan.
Took up arms? Or someone supplied them with arms? Both.
What differentiates you from other Nigerians that you're on reddit? I'm guessing you don't live there now, so is that it? Nothing really. If Reddit becomes facebook popular, I'd definitely expect to see more. I was always a weird one back home I guess. I don't live there now.
Hi! I am half Nigerian, unfortunately have never travelled to the country. When I ask my grandmother questions she does everything to avoid the subject entirely. When did the tensions between Christians and Muslims start?! And is the government partaking in any forms of relief for the situation? How is the situation now? The tension started after independence. The Brits fucked us in the arse and pulled out leaving the Muslims and Christians to squabble for the prize. Different military generals of varying faiths also contributed to the tensions. Resource allocation however is one of the major factors. The North is predominantly Muslim while the south is Christian.
Wait..like they did with India and Pakistan? The brits sure slept around didn't they.
Which event that you witnessed affected you most? There are many, Could you be a little bit more specific?
I'll piggyback.. How have these events you witnessed shaped your world view? What are the big problems from your point of view and what can be done to solve them? There is nothing we can do to solve in. Alleviate it perhaps but not solve. The old men in power give the same reins to their children who grew up with wealth. Short of exiling them from the stratosphere, the bourgeoisie are the bourgeoisie because they know how to remain the bourgeoisie.
How prevalent is gun ownership among individuals or families in Nigeria? Not really prevalent. Just the para military forces and criminals. The rest have weapons of prayer.
In your opinion, is religion is a force for good, or a force for evil? Both. Grew up Catholic and had Muslim friends and Christian friends of different denominations. The kindest and worst people I met are from both ends.
So basically religion has nothing to do with it; people are either just shitty or good people. The best kind of shitty amte. The kind where you have an utmost devotion to being shit.
When I was in Nigeria, everyone would shake hands with everyone, and the cool guys would always snap their fingers off of each others'. How can we bring this practice to the West? My friends don't get how cool it is. Teach them how to do it.
Thanks for doing this. What do you think it will take to control Boko Haram? Do you think the government/military is too weak? Nigeria is a former British Colony, so do you think Britain or the UN could step in like France did in Mali? I think a honey pot deal. Lure the bastards into a cease fire and purge them behind a shed. Brutal? maybe. But the amount of shit they have pulled, people they have killed, innocent kids who were schooling even. External intervention wouldn't do anything since we are not in a civil war era yet. The Boko Harma still keep to the Northern part of the country.
think a honey pot deal. Lure the bastards into a cease fire and purge them behind a shed. Brutal? maybe. But the amount of shit they have pulled, people they have killed, innocent kids who were schooling even. History shows that this cannot be the response. Brutal retaliation leads to a cycle of rape, torture and mass murder. This cycle leads to even more young men, who have been directly effected by the violence, to join the radical group on their side. Examples include Hutu vs. Tutsi in Rwanda, Janjaweed vs Sudan Liberation Movement/Army in Sudan and the Séléka vs the Anit-Balaka in CAR. The long road to recovery and peace needs to start with arrests and trials of war criminals, followed by reconciliation projects. Many of the people who have been displaced during these conflicts were friendly with neighbours of different backgrounds. It is sad to see that the brutality of these wars has labeled every citizen either A or B and puts civilians in the cross-hairs of the enemy. Are there any groups in Nigeria trying to bring Christian and Muslim citizens together to build a future where both religions can co-exist? Thing is Nigeria is divided right down the middle that the only advocacy groups are the Muslim and Christian leaders. Even then everyone is playing hard ball and pointing the finger so it never amounts to anything.
To brighten the mood a bit, what is a must-try dish from Nigeria? Fired rice and plantain(do do) with stew or without.
F'real? Forgot about Nsala? Nkwobi? Isi-Ewu? Suya?.. Aww come on the soups are complicated to make.
Isi-ewu is just goat-head bro. You order 'em from drinking 'joints'. You don't have to DIY. ;) I know. But nothing beats ram meet during sallah.
What is the deal with the rabid hatred for LGBT people that is reported on so much? You have to understand that we are still chasing the west in every aspect of life. From education, standard of living, down to societal preconceptions.
I have spent a lot of time in Africa and it seems to me that much of the problem is different tribes/cultures being forced into the same country because some english guy drew a somewhat random map of the area. Nigeria seems to have clear ethnic regions. Do you think it would help if the country was broken up into smaller countries? Dividing the nations is simply dividing the problems. It doesn't do anything. All we need is a better educated generation. The onset of technology is helping that immensely.
How has everything you have seen or experienced while living in Nigeria shaped you to be what you are today? Yes it has. I learned to both appreciate my heritage and I get to pat myself on the back for not dying yet.
You mentioned you were well read growing up - do you read Nigerian literature? My parents have been harping on about Chinua Achebe for years Yes I did read a lot. Including Chinua Achebe's works.
Mach-2, your ama just paid off. You found a classy gal who likes Paolo Nutini. Well done. She used a throw away.
You sure brother? Her account is 36 hours older than your AMA. Catch that flaming arrow. :) Ahaha please don't give me ideas mate.
You're right, ideas are far to powerful a force to just throw around willy-nilly. Nah. Get her number and give her a ring. On the phone... make the phone ring, but don't physically give her a ring. Yet. Knowing my luck, it was all a troll.
Hey man, don't insult me like that! Has reddit really made you so jaded? Of course it's a throwaway! Would you have preferred something like "I_EAT_ANUS_NSFW"? Ahahaha apologies. You just can't be too sure. The lengths people go to troll these days is insane.
What was the most shite part of your childhood? NEPA now known as PHCN. They are the electric company. Never any light.
How long did you live in Nigeria, and what part of Nigeria? I lived there for 18 years. Lived in Lagos then moved to Jos.
Hey, I know this kind of non-related topic, but how big is impact of soccer on the population? Very popular. Played everywhere. it's the number 1 sport.
What's your favourite colour? Blue...ish.
What are some of Nigeria's biggest issues today, and what can the global 'North' (Europe, North America, etc.) do to help? Education and Electricity. There's nothing Europe and North America can do to help. We need to sort ourselves out. No matter how much money you send, pot bellied chief Obi will pocket it.
Yes you did the AMA!! What one thing could Nigeria do to improve things? I would suggest an overhaul of the democratic process barring many of the former leaders from running for office and active checks and balances.
What was the worst moment in Nigeria that you've rebember? Finding out my aunt who raised me died on a medical table when the doctors forgot about her due to heavy work load.
How big is the influence of the gang 'The area boys' with the common citizen? Depends on where you go. They usually operate in the less secure areas.
I have already read that you don't live in Nigeria at the moment, but what is your favorite thing about your country? There is a certain unabashed honesty when it comes to criticising the nation. The only other people that come close to admitting the good with the bad I've seen, are the Brits. We have a go at each other.
I remember reading some of your stories about your boarding school a few months ago, The ones which stick out are when you got involved in a fruit smuggling rink, and when some kid made a prison break style escape. My tag for you also leads to this comment which I think is fucking hilarious. My question is what is your favorite memory from your boarding school? When I got my first girl friend I reckon.
How do you live with what you have seen today? Do you have nightmares? Where are you living now? I'm normal. Except for the occasional waking up to conduct rituals, I'm alright. Seriously though, I don't have nightmares anymore. I do get instances that trigger memories but not so much. I lived in the UK, currently in Canada now.
Chai, bros how far now? I dey bros. How you? where you dey?
In college I took an African lit class. I found that Nigeria has some really good authors. How well-known at home are writers like Chinua Achebe, Wole Soyinka, Ben Okri, etc.? Achebe is actually pretty popular in America since a lot of high schools assign Things Fall Apart. They're standard. We were always taught about their works. Things fall apart, the gods are not to blame etc.
I know I'm late to the party here, but are you stoked for Nigeria in World Cup this year? You guys might actually make it out of group, which I don't think the US will pull off. You bastard! I buried the world cup at the back of my mind ages ago. You can't just give me hope like this. I hope we can. Our junior team does well but the senior team under performs. I don't know why. U.S.A has been getting better, you guys might actually surprise us. Hopefully not. Just so I can rub it in your face in CC.
Sorry for a slightly boring question, but im an english teacher in a foreign country. Are there many foreign teachers in Nigeria? Yes there are. Well paid too.
I heard from an article in National Geographic that the Nigerian security forces have sometimes been as brutal as Boko Haram when dealing with security threats, especially in the north of the country. Does this have any semblance of truth to it? Yes. The time for diplomacy is over.
What tribe does you family originate from? My good friend in Uni was Ibo. Idoma mate.
Money probably got short. No. That little shit got all the attention. We are 4 kids.
My student worker is from Nigeria. He wanted me to ask you how much you miss Suya, because he misses it dearly living here in the United States. Ahhahahaha I FUCKING DO. Ask him when last he had some. Tell him I had some Kilishi from a friend of mine a year ago.
I live in Houston, TX which I think has the highest concentration of Nigerians of anywhere in the US. We have a lot of Nigerian restaurants here where you can get suya, but somehow it's never as good as buying it outside the market from a guy with a cart who serves it on folded newspaper. I think you might know some people I know in Houston TX but I'm afraid to ask. Yeah and nothing beats the anticipation as you watch the mai-suya douse it with oil and fan it over and over.
chops lol, how far. Is this a naija meetup? wetin dey happen?
Of course. The funny thing is each person thinks he's the funniest and cleverest coming up with jokes that hang lower than a great grandma's breasts. That's why I hid my Nigerian heritage all my time on Reddit. It's like those people who make jokes out of names or call Americans fat. Gets old quick.
